On Saturday, a wager on any horse to win the Triple Crown was a 9-1 payout. On Sunday, that same wager was down to a 2-1 payout at one racebook.
Such was the dominant form of California Chrome in the 140th Kentucky Derby that racebook and sportsbook managers slashed the odds to win the Triple Crown.
The horse became the first California-bred to win the Derby since 1962 and his team announced immediately he would ship to Pimlico for the Preakness Stakes. He was expected to open as a significant favorite after racing away from the field before cruising to a victory of less than two lengths.
Odds posted Monday morning at Sportsbook showed the caution oddsmakers are exercising with the colt, who is riding a five-race win streak. They also posted a -150 line on the ‘will he win the Preakness Stakes’ question.
