Lionel Messi & PSG heavy favorites in latest Ligue 1 odds.

Ligue 1 Title Odds: PSG Running Away With Ligue 1

The super team of PSG have not yet dropped a point in the Ligue 1, which makes them huge favorites to win the French league. While there may not be too many other betting options in the main Ligue 1 title odds market, there are other markets to consider. Odds Shark takes an in-depth look at these options from the French league.

According to Sportsbook’s Ligue 1 title odds, PSG are massive favorites to win the French league with odds of -2000 followed in the far distance by Lyon (+1800) and defending champions Lille (+2500).

Ligue 1 Title Odds Favorite

There aren’t too many options in this category. It is likely this market will become redundant fairly soon.

PSG (-2000)

PSG have started the season with aplomb. They have put up five wins in five matches to move comfortably, and potentially irreversibly, to the top of the Ligue 1 table. Their only blemish was a 1-1 draw in the Sportsbook match of the Champions League against Brugge (which was incidentally also Odds Shark’s only inaccurate prediction in our new Champions League Best Bets series; sob, sob).

“Nobody in the team can be happy with their performance and nobody can be happy with this result. We came here to take points. All the points,” PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino said. “We need time to work for them to build an understanding. That’s been clear and we’ve said that in recent days. We still must create a team. We didn’t have a good evening. We must stay calm, keep working and take the time we need. Things will get better.”

Their unmatched strength in the Ligue 1 and unrivaled dominance is expected to continue well into the early part of 2022 because they have now managed to hold on to Kylian Mbappe as well, which will buoy the team for the season to come.

So far, they have scored 16 goals and conceded five in the French league, another indicator that they are simply too strong in the final third in the Ligue 1. No other team has scored more than 10 goals to date. PSG’s Ligue 1 title odds have shortened from -1400 to -2000 since Odds Shark’s previous update.

Value Picks to Win Ligue 1 Title

The Ligue 1 title odds board has a bizarre look with no team having odds in three figures. The first and only real value option is seventh-placed Lyon.

Lyon (+1800)

Lyon’s Ligue 1 title odds have not moved since Odds Shark’s previous update. They started the season with two points from their first three matches but have since managed to put up two successive wins to push them up to seventh on the Ligue 1 table. They are coming off a morale-boosting 1-0 win on the road against Nantes, a match in which they were reduced to 10 men which were followed by a more comfortable 3-1 win at home against Strasbourg.

However, to compete against the might and power of PSG, there can be no more errors, especially defensively. Taking their chances in the final third is then crucial, which could see their Ligue 1 title odds shorten but not too drastically.

“We have several captains,” manager Peter Bosz said. “Xherdan Shaqiri is in the squad; he played 70 minutes last match. We have to take care of him. We have to protect him from a physical point of view. Moussa Dembele will be absent, each player is unique according to his own characteristics. I am very happy that Guimaraes and Paqueta are with us. It’s a perfectly logical decision. With the health situation, you have to adapt very quickly."

Betting Strategy for Sportsbooks of Ligue 1

Currently, there do not seem to be any other logical decisions apart from backing PSG to win this league. They will be deeply determined to overcome a poor mid-week performance in the Champions League with some strength and quality in the final third in the French league. These Ligue 1 title odds are not compelling but that is also fair considering how likely the outcome is, especially after Messi’s integration into the starting XI.

A better Ligue 1 outright betting market could be which teams would make the top three.

Favorites to Finish In the Top Three

There are only two more options because PSG are all but confirmed to finish in the top three, even at this early stage of the season.

Lyon (+100)

For the reasons mentioned previously, Lyon will make a solid and reliable option to make the top three. Their Ligue 1 outright odds are fairly lucrative but they will need to lift their game as the season progresses.

After a slow start, they have certainly been able to make some progress up the points table, which will hold them in good stead. They are also involved in the Europa League, a tournament that could also provide them with some confidence and fluency in the French league.

Marseille (+100)

Marseille and Nice are to finish their postponed match. Without that, Marseille are currently third in the Ligue 1 standings with 10 points in four matches. They have a chance to move to second if they can win the additional game in hand.

In terms of form, they have won their last two matches, including a 3-1 win at home against St Etienne as well as a 2-0 victory on the road against Monaco. They have scored 10 goals and conceded five, which gives them a positive goal difference of +5.

The Outside Contenders

Nice (+150)

Like Marseille, Nice also has a game in hand after the postponement of their match. From the early evidence, there is plenty to suggest that Nice could be serious contenders for the top three this season.

From a tangible standpoint, they have three successive wins after Sportsbook the season with a draw. They have the second-best goal difference in Ligue 1 after scoring 10 and conceding none. That defensive capability makes them a proper option because the Ligue 1 is not exactly a slow-moving league. If they can maintain that defensive effectiveness, there could be a certain position in the top three awaiting them.

Nice beat Bordeaux 4-0 at home before another solid 2-0 win on the road against Nantes in their previous match in the league. Overall, there is form and confidence in this Nice team, reliable characteristics when it comes to making betting decisions.

Betting Strategy For Top-3 Market

Monaco (+200) is a team not to back for this market after their slow start to the league. They are currently 16th in the league with four points in five matches, which has resulted in a disparity with some of the other teams in the running.

Nice are currently providing the best balance of risk and reward with Ligue 1 betting odds of +150. They are yet to concede a goal, which always is telling when it comes to understanding how a team positions themselves across the phases of a soccer pitch.

Right now, my picks for this market would be PSG, Lyon and Nice to finish in the top three. The level of certainty will change as this season progresses but for now, there is a relatively high degree of probability based on early-season evidence.

If you prefer betting on individual markets, Sportsbook also has odds for the Ligue 1’s top goalscorer in the 2021-22 season.

Favorites To Win Golden Boot

Players from PSG will always dominate this market until a truly disruptive offensive season from another team which, at this point, seems rather implausible.

Kylian Mbappe (+110)

Mbappe is currently jointly at the top of the goal-scoring charts with four goals in five matches. He has retained his position in the Ligue 1 with PSG despite rumors regarding his move to Real Madrid getting increasingly stronger. He will have to find a way of combining well with his colleagues, which include some of the best players in the world in Neymar and Messi, which could be a challenge for a young player.

"We know we have to improve. That's not the problem for me,” Pochettino said about the chemistry of PSG’s attacking core. “I'm happy with the defensive effort of the attackers. We have to be stronger in other areas of the game. [We] need to compete, to know each other, to understand each other, to play together to succeed with all three but that was not the problem.”

With his speed and strength across the phases of a soccer pitch, Mbappe could be fed plenty of chances in the final third, which will improve his Ligue 1 outright odds of winning this market.

Lionel Messi (+125)

Interestingly, Messi constitutes a value pick at these odds. Messi has not scored a goal for his new team yet, but that will change soon. He scored 35 goals in 30 matches in 3,022 minutes in the La Liga last season along with five goals in the Champions League. He had scored 25 goals in 33 matches in the 2019-20 La Liga season in a little under 2,900 minutes.

"For me on a personal level, I would love to win another Champions League, like I've said in previous years, and I think I've come to the ideal place that's ready for that," Messi said. "We have the same goals. It's got impressive players, one of the best squads in the world and, hopefully, we can achieve that goal which Paris wants so much, I want so much.

Any Value Picks?

Amine Gouiri (+2500) is currently at the top of the Ligue 1 goal-scoring charts, along with his Nice colleague Kasper Dolberg, Mbappe and Lyon’s Moussa Dembele (+1000). However, Nice are not a team that moves too quickly across the phases of a soccer pitch, which makes a player from the club a tricky target.

Odds Shark will be back in two weeks for yet another update for the Ligue 1 title odds. While not much will change in the outright market, there could be other betting options to consider. Either way, stay tuned to this page for yet another French soccer betting update.
