Joe Ryan is bound for regression under new MLB schedule for 2023

MLB Expert Picks For April 29th: Twins On A Sausage Streak!

It's time for MLB expert picks.

We've got a good feel for how each club operates now, a month into the hardball season. As always, we can bet accordingly.

Here are my two MLB expert picks for today's games:

MLB Expert Picks: April 29th, 2024

Pick 1: Reds (-110) vs Padres

Matchup Preview - Game Time: 9:40 pm ET

The crunch for this game begins on the mound, where each starting pitcher has a dramatically different betting outlook. We know game betting isn't entirely reliant on starting pitching, but, it's a good place to start digging out trends.

For example, the Padres are 1-4 SU in games Matt Waldron starts this season. In fact, San Diego has scored more than two runs just once in a Waldron start.

Meanwhile, Cincinnati is undefeated in all three starts made by Nick Lodolo. The young lefty is cruising right now, and he should buy enough time for Reds hitters to get to work. Cincy's offense is very reliant on Elly De La Cruz, so we'll need him to play big. Beyond that, I trust the Reds bullpen to hold tight in an inevitable close contest.

Pick 2: Twins (-165) vs White Sox

Matchup Preview - Game Time: 7:40 pm ET

Two words: Rally Sausage. Twins infielder Kyle Farmer placed a packaged summer sausage by Minnesota's bat rack last week, and, voila, the Twins have won seven straight games.

The only thing grosser than Twins hitters handling an expired sausage might be their opponent's record Monday. The White Sox are rocking a three-game win streak, but that only pushes their record to 6-22. The Southsiders remain baseball's worst club.

I'll bet the Twins at a reasonable value, in part because starter Joe Ryan has delivered a quality start in three of his last four outings.
