Indianapolis Colts vs Baltimore Ravens

The Indianapolis Colts (1-1 SU, 1-1 ATS) look to record consecutive road wins for the first time in almost two years when they visit the Baltimore Ravens (2-0, 2-0) on Sunday afternoon in NFL Week 3 action at M&T Bank Stadium.

The Colts snapped an eight-game SU losing streak with last weekend’s 31-20 victory in Houston, but remain winless SU in seven road dates with AFC North opponents since 2014.

The Ravens return home unbeaten after topping the rival Cincinnati Bengals 27-24 last weekend while pegged as 3-point road underdogs. Baltimore also enjoys a 6-1 SU run while favored at home by seven or more points, but is just 2-7-1 ATS over their past 10 as heavy home chalk.

The Colts enjoyed another big day against Houston in their second clash with the Texans since Week 18 last weekend. Indianapolis scored 31 points in each of those dates with the Texans, but have otherwise seen points come at a premium, scoring 21 or fewer points nine times in their past 13 overall outings.

But thanks to some big totals produced by opponents, the OVER has gone 7-1 over their past eight games. On a positive note, the Colts defense stood tall against the rush in Sunday’s win, limiting the Texans to just 52 rushing yards and no scores after allowing Jacksonville rushers to decide things with a pair of scoring runs in Week 1.

And while the team was shaken by the loss of rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson with a suspected concussion, they received a solid performance in Houston from backup Gardner Minshew, who connected on 82.6% of his pass attempts for 171 yards and one TD

Losers in three of their final games last season while Lamar Jackson was sidelined by injury, this Ravens team has been revitalized by the return of their star quarterback. Jackson provided the spark against the Bengals, tossing for 237 yards and two scores, and added 54 rushing yards in the win.

Overall, the Ravens are now 7-1 SU in their past eight when Jackson starts, and just 2-7 SU in their past nine without their star pivot. The Ravens have also enjoyed a stout defense in recent home dates, limiting opponents to nine or fewer points in four of their past five, and to just 11.9 points per game during their 6-1 SU run at home.

But with Baltimore scoring just 17.1 points per game over that stretch, the UNDER has paid out in each of those contests, and in 10 of their past 11 home dates. 

The Keys to Victory: Colts

With the status of Anthony Richardson for Sunday’s game far from certain, the Colts and their backers on the NFL Week 3 odds must prepare for Gardner Minshew to once again be under center.

With Minshew lacking the mobility of Richardson and Jonathan Taylor weeks away from a return to the NFL, it could mean a busy day for rusher Zack Moss, who compiled a game-high 88 rushing yards and one score in Houston.

Michael Pittman Jr. emerged as Minshew’s top target last week while making eight catches for 54 yards, and racked up 89 yards and one TD catch when he last faced Baltimore in 2021. 

The Keys to Victory: Ravens

As goes Lamar Jackson, so go the Ravens, and more of the same should be expected this weekend. After failing to find the end zone in a 25-9 win over Houston in Week 1, Jackson’s offensive outburst versus Cincinnati was certainly welcome.

However, he has failed to throw a touchdown pass in four straight home appearances while getting sacked 12 times over that stretch.

Rookie receiver Zay Flowers is well-positioned to help Jackson end that dubious streak. The first-round pick out of Boston College made four catches for 62 yards last week, and has compiled 140 yards through his first two NFL appearances, but has yet to score.
