Understanding Copa America Odds

The current format features 12 teams playing at venues in the host nation for a month. Because there are only 10 teams in the CONMEBOL, two international teams are invited to participate in the tournament.

We use American odds but you can choose Decimal (1.20) or Fractional (1/5) style. Bettors in the U.K. are more inclined to use fractions, whereas those who wager in Europe and Australia will likely use decimals. As for those in the Americas, they will probably use their namesake odds.

These are moneyline odds. To make a bet like this, you’ll simply need to pick a team to win or the tie option. In this scenario, Brazil is the favorite and Uruguay is the underdog. You can tell which team is the fave because of the minus sign (-). The club with the plus sign is the dog (+).

At -162, oddsmakers predict that Brazil has a 61.83 percent chance of winning the match. At +300, Uruguay has a 25 percent shot, and there is a 16.7 percent chance that the game will end in a draw. If you think Brazil is going to win, a $100 bet would give you a payout of $161.73 – your original money is returned coupled with your prize of $61.73. That same $100 on Uruguay would give you $300 – your $100 comes back along with your winnings of $400. If you choose the tie, you’d get $600 – $100 +$500.

Betting On Copa America

We’ve already covered the moneyline with our odds example, but that’s not the only betting type available for Copa America. Each bet provides different scenarios for you to make some coin if you handicap them correctly.

Totals: Betting On The Combined Score

Often referred to as an OVER/UNDER bet, you would need to predict if the combined score from both teams will be more or less than the oddsmaker’s set number. Odds would look something like this:

If you think the total score will be three or more, you would take the OVER. If you think it will be two or less, you would bet the UNDER.

Point Spread: Which Team Will Cover?

For a point spread bet, you would need to pick a squad to cover. Odds would appear like so:

Venezuela -1.5

Peru +1.5

In this example, Venezuela is favored. If you were to bet them, they would need to beat Peru by at least two goals. On the other hand – or foot, because it is soccer – Peru would need to win the game outright or not lose by more than one goal.

Futures: Who Will Win It All?

This is a bet where you would predict one team to win the entire tournament. Futures odds are released weeks or even months before the tournament begins. Odds could look like this:

Props are bets on individual player and team occurrences like:

• How many goals will X score?

• Which team will score first in the second half?

• How many yellow cards will Y get?
