oston Bruins left defenseman Torey Krug (47) and Toronto Maple Leafs right wing William Nylander (29) jostle during Game 5 of the First Round Stanley Cup Playoffs between the Boston Bruins and the Toronto Maple Leafs on April 19, 2019, at TD garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

Can the Leafs Finally Knock the Bruins out of the Playoffs?

The Toronto Maple Leafs haven’t won a playoff series since 2004, but the Buds have an opportunity to buck that trend and eliminate the arch-rival Boston Bruins when the clubs collide in Canada for Game 6 today. Sportsbooks opened the Leafs as -125 home favorites with a total of 5.5.

Bruins vs Maple Leafs Game Center

Standout Stats

  • Toronto skated away with a 2-1 victory in Game 5 on Friday, as Auston Matthews continues to lift his team to new heights after a forgettable series with the Bruins a year ago. Matthews, who opened the scoring in Game 6 at 11:33 of the third period, has four goals and an assist in his last three games.
  • No team has won two games in a row in this series, with each team alternating wins and losses since Game 1. Keep in mind, both their 2013 and 2018 first-round series went to seven games with Boston eliminating Toronto in Game 7.
  • Bruins center David Krejci scored his club’s lone goal in Game 5 to boost his point streak to three games (two goals, one assist). Winger David Pastrnak set up Krejci’s third-period tally to give him four points (two goals, two assists) in his previous four contests.
  • Boston owns a 3-20 mark all-time in series in which they trailed by a 3-2 margin, although they did rally from the same deficit to defeat Vancouver in the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals.
  • Andreas Johnsson has proven to be a big-time player for the Leafs. Johnsson, who set up Kasperi Kapanen’s goal in Game 5, has four points (one goal, three assists) in his last three tilts and six in 11 career postseason games.

My best bet for Bruins-Maple Leafs

Bruins moneyline

This has been an extremely tight series, so bet on the moneyline at your own risk, but judging on what we’ve seen from these teams in the past, I think this series will once again go seven games. Game 5 could’ve easily gone to overtime and was close from start to finish. I expect Game 6 to be tight as well, yet I think the Bruins will take this thing back to TD Garden for an epic Game 7.

The UNDER is 5-1 in the last six meetings between the Bruins and Maple Leafs. The Bruins are 5-2 in their last seven road games.away The Bruins are 3-8 in their last 11 meetings with the Maple Leafs in Toronto.
