Hurricanes, Islanders Begin Unlikely Second-Round Matchup at Barclays Center

Instead of Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin doing battle in the second round of the NHL playoffs, the New York Islanders and Carolina Hurricanes will face off after beating the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals. With Game 1 set for Friday in New York, sportsbooks opened the Islanders as -145 home favorites with a total of 5.5.

  • The Islanders are well-rested after sweeping Pittsburgh and haven’t seen the ice since April 16. Carolina is on the opposite end of the spectrum after pushing the Capitals to seven games before picking up a huge win in double overtime.
