Before their 2-1 loss to the Canadiens Thursday night, the Predators had cashed 11 straight OVER bets, a streak during which their games averaged a total of 8 goals per contest. This is important because the team they’ll play tonight, the Blackhawks, have cashed OVERs in nine of their last 12 contests and their tilt at Bridgestone Arena this evening opened with a total of just 5.5.
Not only did that buzzkill by Carey Price and the Habs stop the Preds’ OVER streak, it also stopped a four-game win streak for Nashville and temporarily slowed the roll of Filip Forsberg, who had 10 goals in the previous five games on just 18 shots. Nashville’s offense has been basically unstoppable since the all-star break, scoring 3.21 goals per contest while peppering opposing netminders with more than 32 shots on average.
Those numbers match up pretty with the Blackhawks’ as the team from the Windy City is averaging over four goals a game since the break with Patrick Kane leading the way with seven goals in his last four games. Kaner had 16 points in the month of February and in doing so has caught a lot of ground on Connor McDavid in the Art Ross race.
I like the OVER tonight and I like it a lot. Even if the number was six or 6.5 I’d be fine with laying down a pretty good wager here – depending on the juice.
