Rangers vs Golden Knights Picks & Odds: New York Kicks Off Tough Road Trip

The Vegas Golden Knights (19-7-1) return home from a successful four-game road trip on Wednesday to host the New York Rangers (12-10-5) as solid favorites at sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark. The Golden Knights will try to avoid a letdown vs their former head coach Gerard Gallant and the Rangers after picking up six of a possible eight points on their trip and improving to an NHL-best 12-2-1 away from home this season.

Rangers vs Golden Knights Sportsbook Odds

Vegas is coming off a 4-3 shootout victory on Monday against the Boston Bruins, who had set an NHL record with a 14-0-0 start at home this year. The Golden Knights got off to a 3-0 lead behind two goals from Paul Cotter before blowing it and winning in the shootout. But they still cashed as +170 road underdogs while playing without two of their best players in Jack Eichel (lower-body injury) and Alex Pietrangelo (personal reasons).

Early money has come in on Vegas, with the line going up to -155, as New York will be playing the opener of a two-game road trip that ends with a visit to the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche on Friday. The Rangers have dropped five of seven.

New York’s Recent Struggles Happening at MSG

Much like their opponent, the Rangers have enjoyed more success on the road than at home lately. New York has dropped four of its last five games at Madison Square Garden but won three of four on the road, where the team has a 7-4-1 record overall. By comparison, the Rangers are just 5-6-4 at home, with only one of their last four losses there decided after regulation time.

They did end a four-game home skid on Monday with a 6-4 win over the St. Louis Blues, cashing as -165 favorites with the OVER coming in for the fourth time in their last five at MSG. The UNDER is 5-1 in their past six on the road.

Vegas Needs to Replicate Road Success at Home

The Golden Knights are in their sixth year of existence, and they may be getting too comfortable – and complacent – at T-Mobile Arena. Visitors are also not as uncomfortable as they used to be when they suffered from the “Vegas flu” by enjoying Sin City a bit too much leading up to puck drop.

A mediocre 7-5 home record this season is all you need to see to realize that they simply do not have the same advantage they once did on their own ice. Gallant knows all about that malady as well from his days on the bench there, so you can bet he will make sure his players are ready to play. Regardless, it would help the Knights if they played with a chip on their shoulder like they do away from home.

Rangers: Keys To Victory

The last time Vegas returned home from a road trip of more than two games, the team had trouble adjusting and lost two in a row there as a favorite of -200 or higher in a bit of a letdown situation. New York is hoping to catch its opponent in a similar spot here, and Gallant’s familiarity with his old stomping grounds can only help his current team’s cause.

Golden Knights: Keys To Victory

Eichel is still considered day-to-day but may be back on the ice, so make sure to check the latest injury report before betting. Pietrangelo could also return, further strengthening a defense that stood tall in his absence. Even without them, Vegas showed that its depth remains one of the team’s top assets, with others stepping up and taking advantage of extended playing time. New head coach Bruce Cassidy has done a masterful job of managing each player’s role, and that is why the team is off to such a great start.
