Pittsburgh Penguins vs Philadelphia Flyers Preview

Penguins, Flyers Ready to Fill the Net

The Pittsburgh Penguins are coming off one of their worst games of the season – and it has cost them sole possession of top spot in the East Division. The Penguins (34-16-3 SU, 25-24-4 O/U) will be looking for immediate redemption Tuesday night against a host Philadelphia Flyers team (23-22-7 SU, 33-19 O/U) that handed its cross-state rival a 7-2 beating a night earlier.

Sportsbook Odds Analysis

Both the moneyline and the total have seen movement for Tuesday’s rematch. The Penguins opened at -135 but that line has jumped all the way into the -165 to -170 range at most sportsbooks. The total has risen from 6 to 6.5.

Pittsburgh News & Notes

If the Penguins wind up finishing second in the division (they’re now tied with the Washington Capitals, who have a game in hand), they’ll have their record against the Flyers to blame for that. Pittsburgh fell to 2-5 SU against the Flyers for the season with Monday’s one-sided defeat, making Philly one of only two teams against whom the Penguins will sport a losing record.

The Capitals aren’t the only team the Penguins need to concern themselves with at the moment. The third-place Boston Bruins are nipping at their heels, sitting just three points back and with two games in hand after clobbering the New Jersey Devils on Monday. Fortunately for the Penguins, they’ll finish the regular season with consecutive home games vs the last-place Buffalo Sabres.

Philadelphia News & Notes

While the Flyers won’t be tasting the postseason this year, that win over the Penguins had to feel satisfying for a team that got off to a great start but has gone just 12-18-4 since the beginning of March. The Flyers will continue to find themselves in the potential spoiler role, with three of their final four games coming against the Penguins and Capitals.

If you’re looking for player props or daily fantasy targets on the Flyers side, Travis Konecny is a strong option here. Konecny has made a living this season victimizing the Penguins, having racked up four goals and seven assists in seven head-to-head meetings. His price on most major daily fantasy sites won’t be prohibitive, making him a worthy lineup building block.

Betting Pick: OVER 6

These teams know how to fill the net, and with the Penguins in must-win mode and the Flyers just looking to make life miserable for their remaining opponents, this game should feature plenty of scoring chances.
