The Los Angeles Kings return to the Staples Center down 0-2 in their series vs the Vegas Golden Knights and will try to recover on home-ice. The Kings were edged by one goal in both of their losses in this series and should be looking forward to getting back to Hollywood, as they won seven of their final 10 home games going into the postseason.
Defensively, the Kings couldn’t have played much better as they held the high-scoring Knights to only two regulation goals in two games. Goaltender Jonathan Quick did everything he could to keep Los Angeles in it but the Kings were outshot 56-30 in Game 2.
Scoring has been an issue all year for Los Angeles, who averaged 2.89 goals per game this season, which would rank last for all playoff teams in the postseason. Kings’ leading scorer Anze Kopitar notched 35 goals this year but he has been largely invisible through two games and has only managed five shots on goal.
The Knights, on the other hand, have come out each firing the puck and scored in the first period in both games. Vegas has also taken it to another level defensively by holding the Kings to one goal on 55 shots through two games.
Marc-Andre Fleury has been spectacular in net for the Knights all season and these performances in the postseason are exactly why Vegas made him its first pick in the 2017 Expansion Draft. Fleury has actually been better on the road than at home this season, winning 13 of his 18 starts and having a 2.11 goals-against-average and a .934 save percentage.
The total opened at 5 and all signs point to an UNDER in Tinsel-Town. The UNDER has hit in five of six games between these teams this year with an average combined score of 4.1 goals per game.
