Capitals Have Won Five Straight at PNC Arena

After losing all four regular-season meetings with the Washington Capitals, the Carolina Hurricanes’ struggles with the Capitals continued in the first two games of their first-round playoff series. Down 2-0, the Hurricanes head back to Raleigh looking to stop the bleeding in Game 3 tonight. Sportsbooks opened the Hurricanes as -130 home favorites with a total of 6.

Capitals vs Hurricanes Game Center

Standout Stats

  • Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby has been excellent lately, as the Canadian has turned aside 196 of 209 shots in his past seven games (7-0-0), with four of those victories coming against Carolina.
  • Hurricanes netminder Petr Mrazek dropped the first two games of the series, stopping 43 of 50 shots. In his career, Mrazek is 4-8 with a 2.23 goals-against average and .916 save percentage in the postseason.
  • Brooks Orpik’s goal 1:48 into overtime in Game 2 was just his fourth tally in 151 career playoff games. Nicklas Backstrom scored twice to highlight Washington’s three-goal first period in Game 1 and found the back of the net again in Game 2.
  • When the Capitals hit the road, high-scoring affairs tend to follow. In Washington’s past eight road contests, the OVER is 6-2 with an average combined score of 7.4 goals.
  • Washington has had no issues getting the job done in Carolina. The Capitals have won each of their past five trips to PNC Arena with an average winning margin of one goal.

My best bet for Capitals-Hurricanes

Hurricanes moneyline

This series has been closer than the score might suggest, as Carolina has been in each game so far. While I don’t think the Hurricanes will win the series, I’m also not expecting Carolina to get swept and I think they’ll take tonight’s contest in front of their hometown fans. Give me the ’Canes as home faves.
