2021 Rugby Six Nations Odds: France favored over surging Wales

Antoine Dupont leads France which is the favorite in the Six Nations odds.

The annual Six Nations Championship – aka the Guinness Six Nations, since we all know us ruggers love the occasional pint here and there – is well underway. Pre-tournament favorite England has now fallen twice, leading to France being the favorite in 2021 Rugby Six Nations odds.

The fourth of five weeks of competition resumes on Saturday, March 6, because Saturday’s a rugby day!

Online sportsbook Bovada has updated its 2021 Six Nations odds following the third week of games, with France listed as the -150 favorite, followed by Wales at +135, Scotland at +1600, England at +10000 and Ireland at +10000 to round out the top five nations on the oddsboard.

Wales remains unbeaten

Undisciplined opposition has really assisted Wales in securing the Triple Crown, with its sights now set on the Grand Slam and Six Nations championship. In Wales’ opening test against Ireland, Irish flanker Peter O’Mahony took a red card in the 14th minute, forcing them to play a man down for the remainder of the game en route to a 21-16 defeat.

A red card appeared in the Welsh’s second match against Scotland at Murrayfield when tighthead prop Zander Fagerson was sent off after charging into the ruck. That proved to be a death blow for the Scots in the 54th minute that allowed Wales to come from behind and grab a 25-24 victory.

Wales vs England - a Welsh Triple Crown

Wales faced its toughest test against visiting England last week but walked away with its largest victory of the tournament, a 40-24 triumph. Some English fans were quick to blame referee Pascal Gauzere, as the Roses took 14 penalties. What was more of a bitter pill to swallow was a controversially awarded try for the Welsh after the ball appeared to have been knocked forward.

Can Wales win the Six Nations?

After securing the Triple Crown, the Welsh have a bit of a cakewalk next by hitting the road to take on Italy, which has lost all three of its games by a combined 139-38 margin. That leaves just one team remaining, the French in the final week of competition, though it won’t be France’s final match.

Les Bleus had a bout with the coronavirus and had their third match postponed until late March. They now visit England before hosting Wales. Perhaps the Welsh can hop on a team that will be coming off a hard-fought test with the English.

Will COVID-19 impact France’s Six Nations hopes?

France took care of business in the opening week, thrashing Italy 50-10 and covering the 21.5-point spread. The French had a much more stressful second game, narrowly edging Ireland 15-13 while failing to cover the 3.5-point spread.

What is impressive to the 2-0 start for the French is that both games came on the road and winning at Aviva Stadium over the Irish is no easy task. Ireland gave its all in the second half, scoring 10 unanswered points after falling into a 15-3 hole, but Les Bleus’ defense held strong down the stretch.

The French were set to host their first game of the tournament but a coronavirus outbreak impacted at least 14 members of the team and their matchup with Scotland was postponed. That match is now tentatively taking place on March 27, assuming a deal can be struck with the Premiership, and the French will be visiting England in Week 4.
