The main event of Titan FC 40 is a Lightweight Championship bout between Gesias Cavalcante and Freddy Assuncao. Cavalcante won the title just two months ago with a first round knockout over Pat Healy. ‘JZ’ has black belts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Luta Livre – a mixture of wrestling and judo. Assuncao enters the title bout riding an eight-fight winning streak with four stoppages and four decisions in that span.
The interim Titan Flyweight Championship is up for grabs when exciting prospects Jose Torres and Abdiel Velazquez clash in the co-main event. Torres was widely regarded as one of the top amateur prospects in MMA before turning pro earlier this year. However, ‘Shorty’ has fought at bantamweight, so this will be his first fight at 125 lbs. Despite being just 23-years old, Velazquez already has nine pro fights to his name. ‘The Nightmare’ has never been stopped in his career.
