F1 Podium: Three Bets for the 2018 British Grand Prix

Mercedes' British driver Lewis Hamilton steers his car during the Austrian Formula One Grand Prix in Spielberg, central Austria, on July 1, 2018.

We went 1-for-3 in Austria last weekend with the field fading Lewis Hamilton. Valtteri Bottas ran the fastest lap in qualifying and started on the pole but was forced to retire early in the race. It remains to be seen if that was a smart bet or not – a good one to keep in mind for next year. The long shot of Fernando Alonso as first to retire did not pay at +1400. Anyone who picked Red Bull to win the race got good value as that bet was paying +2000 on the morning of the race.

There’s no time for teams to digest the topsy-turvy weekend that was the Austrian Grand Prix as the F1 world has descended upon Silverstone in Northamptonshire, England this weekend. The British Grand Prix is the oldest race on the Formula 1 calendar as the 1950 Grand Prix at Silverstone marked the first round of the very first championship season.

Bet on the British Grand Prix here!

P1: Lewis Hamilton to Win (-120)

Hamilton has won five times at Silverstone, including four straight, and the Brit looks to set an all-time record as the only driver to win six times on the track. Hamilton and his Mercedes team will be extra motivated this week after a very disappointing late DNF in Austria. Hamilton’s DNF, combined with a podium finish for Sebastian Vettel, saw the German overtake Hamilton by one point in the drivers championship.

P2: Kimi Raikkonen Top-3 Finish (+165)

Raikkonen is coming off back-to-back podium finishes in France and Austria. Ferrari has traditionally had plenty of success on this track, including a win for Raikkonen in 2007. Although he is primarily supposed to be in a support role for Vettel, the Iceman’s success this year has helped propel Ferrari into the lead in the constructor standings. Raikkonen ran the DHL fastest lap in Austria at 1:06.957.

P3: Lewis Hamilton Fastest Lap (+250)

Hamilton shows up on our list for the second time this week and for good reason. Hamilton has had the fastest lap on this track for three of the past four years and it was his teammate claiming the fastest lap in the year he did not. Mercedes is quite comfortable at Silverstone and there’s no reason to believe it won’t be successful again this year.
