What is the Netflix Cup?

A landmark moment for the streaming giant, the Netflix Cup golf tournament will be the service’s first step into the world of live sports. Four PGA tour members have been paired up with Formula One drivers to compete in a scramble at the Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas.

This all goes down just four days before the Las Vegas Grand Prix, the first time since 1982 that Formula One goes to Sin City.

The event will be overseen by a star-studded cast of commentators including comedian Bert Kreischer, ex-Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch, PGA golfer Joel Dahmen, and sportscaster Kay Adams.

What Are The Netflix Cup Teams?

Each team will feature one F1 driver and one PGA member – these aren’t Netflix newbies though. Each driver was featured in Netflix’s “Drive to Survive” docuseries while the golfers were showcased in the first season of “Full Swing”.

To recap, the pairings are as follows:

Formula One DriversPGA Tour Golfers
Lando Norris (McLaren)Rickie Fowler
Carlos Sainz (Ferrari)Justin Thomas
Pierre Gasly (Alpine)Collin Morikawa
Alex Albon (Williams)Max Homa

As for the best team, it feels like it’ll come down to how the F1 stars pitch in. Norris, Sainz, and Gasly are known to be regular golfers when they’re not on the track – Gasly even participated in 2023’s Ryder Cup. Although Albon is in a relationship with LGPA golfer Muni He, he’s admitted to not being a frequent player. Let’s hope Homa has a good day.

How do I bet on the Netflix Cup?

Similar one-off golf tournaments like The Match are regularly available on most major sportsbooks that offer golf odds. What are the Netflix Cup Rules?

Each Netflix Cup team will play eight holes in a scramble format – it’s yet to be seen if they’ll be playing a fourball format, where everyone hits their own ball, or if they’ll alternate shots between the best ball of each pair.

The pair that finishes a hole with the lowest number of strokes will earn a point, with the top two teams competing in a final ninth hole. The winners of the tournament will take home the first Netflix Cup trophy – it might not be as prestigious as a Major or F1 title win, but it’s still history.

How do I watch the Netflix Cup?

The Netflix Cup will be exclusively available on, well… Netflix! It’ll be streamed from the service on November 14th starting at 3 p.m. PST, or 6 p.m. EST.

If you’re not already a Netflix subscriber, plans start at $6.99 (USD) – existing members will be able to watch like any other title. It might finally be time to stop trying to log in to your old roommate’s account and ante up for this special match.
