Baltimore Orioles' Adam Jones walks off the field after an at-bat during a baseball game

Orioles Will Try To Awaken Sleeping Bats vs Astros

Someone may need to tell Baltimore’s offense that the regular season has started, as the Orioles have plated a combined five runs with 30 strikeouts through their first three games of the season. The Orioles struggled at the plate last season, finishing with the eight-most strikeouts in baseball and a middling 16th in runs scored. Now the O’s will need to try and wake up their bats when they open a three-game series with the Houston Astros Monday.

SHARK BITES
  • Alex Bergman is 3-for-3 with 2 HR in his career vs Chris Tillman.
  • The Orioles are 1-7 SU in their last 8 games against the Astros.
  • Dating back to last season, the Orioles have gone UNDER in 7 straight games.

Aside from problems with offense, the Orioles will need to worry about starting pitcher Chris Tillman who will be making his first appearance of the season. Tillman is coming off the worst year of his career, a campaign that saw him post a 7.84 ERA with a K/BB ratio of 63/51 and finding himself sent to the bullpen. The righty didn’t exactly inspire much confidence during Spring Training either, with an 8.03 ERA with twice as many walks as strikeouts.

On the flip side, the Astros will start Charlie Morton – who is coming off the best season of his career. The right-handed journeyman posted a career-best 3.62 ERA and 10.0 K/9IP. Morton performed well at home, posting a 3.34 ERA in Houston with the Astros winning 11 of his 16 starts at Minute Maid Park.
