Javier Baez #9 of the Chicago Cubs connects for a grandslam as Austin Barnes #15 of the Los Angeles Dodgers looks on during the sixth inning of a game at Dodger Stadium on June 26, 2018 in Los Angeles, California.

Underdog Cubs Provide Value vs Dodgers

The Chicago Cubs (43-34) snapped a five-game losing streak in dramatic fashion on Tuesday night but remain +125 underdogs going into Wednesday’s game in Los Angeles. The Dodgers (42-36) are a -145 favorite at Chavez Ravine in the third game of this four-game series. Chicago has won three of four vs LA and the moneyline looks like a good bet on the Cubs tonight.

SHARK BITES
  • The total has gone UNDER in five of the Dodgers’ last six games at home with an average combined score of 5.83.
  • The Cubs are 6-0 in their last six games against left-handed starters.
  • The Cubs are 1-6 SU in their last seven games at Dodger Stadium.

Who Holds The Edge in the Pitching Matchup?

Kyle Hendricks (5-7, 3.73 ERA) gets the ball for Chicago. The Cubs are 3-7 SU in Hendricks’ last 10 starts and 1-4 in his last five. Hendricks did not see the Dodgers when they were in Chicago last week and will be facing LA for the first time since Game 3 of last year’s NLCS. In that game he was touched up for two homers, six hits and four runs over five innings. Hendricks has only started one game in his career at Dodger Stadium: August 1, 2014, an 8-2 Cubs win.

Alex Wood (3-5, 4.13 ERA) makes his 16th start of the season for the Dodgers. Wood has won his last two starts, pitching into the sixth inning in both games and giving up just three earned runs over 11.2 innings. The UNDER hit in both games. The opposition is hitting .254 against Wood this season and he has a respectable WHIP at 1.18.

Cubbies Successful Against Left-Handed Starting Pitching

Chicago has won six straight against left-handed starters and looks to keep that roll going tonight against Alex Wood. Wood’s team has won just one of his six career starts against the Cubs. Interestingly, the UNDER has hit in his last five starts against Chicago. Totals bettors will find similar odds on both the OVER and the UNDER tonight on Sportsbook. Runline bettors will note that Chicago is 2-5 against the spread in its last seven road games.

Dodgers Have Dominated Cubs On Home Turf

Chicago is two games over .500 on the road and LA is just a game over .500 at home this season. However, the Dodgers have owned the Cubs at Dodger Stadium. Tuesday night was Chicago’s first win in LA since the 2016 playoffs, a stretch of seven games. Both of those Cubs wins were started by their ace, Jon Lester.

LA is keeping the runs off the board at home with the UNDER hitting in five of their last six home games. The Cubs are averaging 4.9 runs per game on the road (third in MLB) while LA is averaging 3.98 runs per game at home. Tonight’s total is set at 7.5.
