Can Luke Weaver Continue his Studly Run at Busch Stadium?

It’s coming down to the wire in the National League Central and the NL wild-card race. Two teams battling for one of the final playoff spots in the NL face off tonight when the Cubs, whose magic number is now at two, visit St. Louis with the Cards just 2.5 games back of the Rockies.

SHARK BITES
  • Luke Weaver has allowed just 4 earned runs in 26.2 innings of work at Busch Stadium in 2017.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 7 of the Cubs’ last 8 games.
  • The Cardinals are 7-0 SU and on the runline in Luke Weaver’s last 7 starts.

The Cubs, 10-2 straight up in their last 12 games, have been taking care of business down the stretch. Their pitching, which has been superb, is the Cubs’ bread and butter right now. Jon Lester (11-8, 4.56 ERA), though, has been questionable all season – and since the all-star break, he’s been downright awful (5.11 ERA).

That said, he’s been getting an inordinate amount of run support in recent outings, with the Cubs averaging 10 runs a game over his last four starts.

Luke Weaver (7-1, 2.05 ERA), the pitcher they’ll face tonight, is unlikely to surrender that kind of offense. The Cardinals have won eight straight games in which the rookie hurler has pitched and he’s been terrific at Busch Stadium, posting a 1.35 ERA in 26.2 innings of work on home turf.

St. Louis is a slight favorite tonight and if Weaver pitches like he can, this should be an easy moneyline cash on the Cardinals.
