Two of the best teams in the American League will begin a series on Monday when the Yankees host the Indians trying to do what the Royals couldn’t – score at least one run against Cleveland. The Tribe beat KC 20-0 on aggregate in their weekend series and they’ll get off on the right foot against the Yanks with Corey Kluber (12-4, 2.65 ERA) taking the mound for Game 1.
As good as Kluber has been this month (4-1, 1.89 ERA), he won’t make the Indians overwhelming favorites tonight with the Yankees calling upon their dominant righty, Luis Severino (11-5, 3.10). New York has won eight of its last nine games with Severino on the mound and Indians’ batters have a combined .162 average in 74 at-bats against Luis.
All that said, the weather for this evening is projecting a 13-mile-per-hour wind blowing out to right field that could lead to a higher than anticipated total in the Bronx. The short porch at Yankee Stadium makes any right-handed pitcher vulnerable against lefties so don’t be shocked if some balls leave the yard in this one.
