Felix Strong in the King’s Court

Veteran righty Felix Hernandez (8-6, 5.11 ERA) has been good at Safeco this season, posting a respectable 3.81 ERA on his home turf and holding batters to an average of .230. Of his nine starts at home, he has allowed three or fewer runs in seven of those outings. The Mariners are 5-4 SU when Hernandez takes the trip to the mound at home.

The native of Venezuela has garnered success through his 43 career starts vs NL foes, posting a 3.12 ERA and a 23-10 record. The big righty has faced the Rockies once in his career, in 2015; he picked up the win but was tagged for four earned runs on 11 hits over 6.2 innings. Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon faced Hernandez in that 2015 battle and went 3-for-4, including two doubles.

Marquez Impressive on the Road

Colorado turns German Marquez (6-8, 5.14 ERA) loose on Seattle in this series opener. Marquez has Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde numbers across his 17 starts this season. At home, the 23-year-old holds a horrendous 7.93 ERA with his club going 3-6 SU in those outings at Coors Field. However, on the road Marquez sports a 2.76 ERA with the Rockies going 5-3 SU in his eight starts. Also, Colorado has gone OVER in five of Marquez’s last six starts but it has gone UNDER in five of his eight road outings in 2018.

Marquez has five career starts vs AL squads in his career, all coming in 2017. Over those trips to the hill, the Venezuela native holds a 2.67 ERA and his club is 4-1 SU. He will be in tough against Seattle, though, as the M’s rank ninth in MLB with a .741 OPS vs RHP, fourth with a .258 batting average, and have a remarkable 40-20 SU record over 60 games against right-handed starters.

Rockies ATS Machines on the Road

As mentioned above, Marquez has shown the ability to keep teams close in his road starts, allowing two or fewer runs in seven of his eight road outings. In the head-to-head matchup between these two teams, the visiting club is 3-1 ATS over the last four contests. In addition, the Rockies are 16-4 ATS in their last 20 games on the road against teams with winning records. Also, the Rockies are 18-12 ATS over their last 30 games overall. Sportsbook opened with the runline of +1.5 at -175 for the Rockies.
