Los Angeles Dodgers vs Atlanta Braves

The Los Angeles Dodgers will try to win their third game in a row vs the Atlanta Braves tonight. The Dodgers took the first two games in Atlanta and now have won seven of their last 10 road games and nine of their last 13 overall. Los Angeles will turn to lefty Alex Wood to challenge the slumping Braves and he’s been fairly decent in 10 road starts with a 3.98 ERA. The Dodgers have won five of their last seven games with Wood as the starter and opened as -125 favorites to steal another win at SunTrust Park.

Wood has had trouble when facing the Braves

Alex Wood may be a forgotten man on the Dodgers’ roster when you consider all the high-profile names through the lineup but Wood has been steady in the starting rotation. The lefty owns a 3.98 ERA in 10 road starts and the Dodgers are 6-3 SU in his nine starts since the beginning of June. In his most recent outing, he held the Brewers to five hits and two earned runs in the 11-2 win. But those numbers take a nosedive when looking at his career performances vs Atlanta as he sports a 6.05 ERA in four career starts against the Braves and it’s not a coincidence that the Dodgers are 1-3 SU in those games.

In the other dugout, the Braves will send Max Fried to the mound after returning from the DL with a hand injury. The reliever-turned-starter has been shifted from the bullpen to starting rotation throughout the season and in his one start at home vs the Mets, he only allowed four hits and one earned run in the 4-3 victory. That being said, in his last start prior to going on the DL, he got rocked in Milwaukee for four hits and four earned runs and was chased out of the game after 3 innings. With Fried’s limited experience as a starter and his recent injury, bettors should tread carefully before backing the Braves.

Braves Struggling at the Worst Time

The Braves started off the season red-hot and were leading the NL East but since the beginning of July, it’s been tough sledding. Atlanta is 5-12 SU and 6-11 ATS in their last 17 games and now trail the Phillies by 2.5-games in the standings with the Nationals creeping up behind them. The hitting has started to dry up for the Braves this month as they rank near the bottom of MLB in runs per game (27th), OPS (22nd), and home runs (28th). Factoring in that the Braves are 2-7 SU in their last nine games at home, Atlanta may be the team to fade in this tilt.

Totals Bettors Should Eye the OVER

The total opened at 9 and the OVER could be the profitable angle in this matchup. The OVER has hit in five of the last six games in this matchup with an average combined score of 9.3 runs per game. When you consider that the Dodgers are one of the best offenses in baseball this month by averaging 5.3 runs per game, it could be a high-scoring affair in Georgia.
