After an up-and-down Sportsbook to the season, the Los Angeles Dodgers are starting to look like the team we expected. The Dodgers are a stellar 21-5 in their last 26 games, which includes a perfect 9-0 record away from Dodger Stadium. They’ll look to continue their road dominance when they open a three-game set at Wrigley Field on Monday.
The Dodgers offense has been mashing the ball at a ridiculous clip recently with 34 home runs in their last 14 games – that includes hitting at least three dingers on eight occasions. And there is no hotter bat than that of Joc Pederson. The left-fielder has seven home runs and 10 RBIs while slugging an absurd 1.182 during the month of June.
Hitting the long ball might be difficult for the Dodgers on Monday, as the Cubs will start Tyler Chatwood. The righty has only surrendered three home runs in 13 starts this season. However, Chatwood’s control can be best defined as erratic with the 28-year-old pacing the MLB in walks – giving up 13 more free passes than anyone else in baseball. He did look a little better in his most recent start, thanks largely to mixing his pitches better and relying on his fastball less.
Kenta Maeda will get his second start since returning from the DL in this one. The Dodgers pitcher looked solid – though unspectacular – in his return to the bump, allowing five hits and two earned runs over 5.0 innings on June 13. Maeda had some issues finding the strike zone, though, with just one strikeout compared to three walks in his most recent outing.
