Can Indians Finally Win Two in a Row vs the Yankees?

The Cleveland Indians managed to break a long losing streak vs the New York Yankees in a 6-5 triumph on Friday and will look to keep the momentum going when the AL squads play the third of their four-game series on Saturday. Sportsbooks opened the Yanks as -108 home faves with a total of 9.

SHARK BITES
  • The Yankees are 1-4 SU in Sabathia's last five road starts.
  • The OVER is 5-0 in the Indians' last five games.
  • The Yankees are 7-1 in the last eight meetings with the Indians.

Sabathia has fared well vs the Tribe

CC Sabathia (6-4, 3.34 ERA), who sits tied with Hall of Famer Juan Marichal for 53rd on the all-time list with 243 wins, couldn’t jump into 52nd in his past outing, as he coughed up five runs in five innings against Baltimore. The 37-year-old tossed six scoreless innings against Cleveland at home earlier this season and owns a 3.36 ERA in 12 career starts vs his former team. Francisco Lindor is 6-for-12 against Sabathia, while Jose Ramirez is 5-for-10 vs him.

Countering Sabathia on the bump is Mike Clevinger (7-4, 3.34). Clevinger tied a season high with 11 strikeouts on Monday vs Cincinnati but was tagged for five runs in six innings in a loss. The hurler limited the Yanks to one hit while fanning 10 over 7 1/3 innings in a clash at Yankee Stadium on May 6. Aaron Judge has fared well against Clevinger (one home run in three career at-bats), but the rest of the Yankees lineup are a combined 2-for-20 against him.

Indians not beating good teams behind Clevinger

Despite his decent aforementioned numbers, the Indians simply cannot beat good teams when Clevinger gets the call. Cleveland is 1-6 SU in Clevinger’s past seven starts vs teams with winning records. That doesn’t bode well for Indians bettors against the high-octane Yankees at the hitter-friendly Yankee stadium.
