Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The line on this matchup has remained steady since the Mets opened as a -120 home favorite. Philadelphia is going off at +100 and the total is set at 8.5 runs since Sportsbook at eight runs. The Phillies are 4-1 in their last five road games against the Mets.

Starting Pitchers Analysis

Kyle Gibson allowed four earned runs in five innings pitched in last Tuesday’s 6-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs. Gibson has led the Phillies to an 0-3 record with a 9.00 ERA and a 1.73 WHIP in three September starts since recording a 4-2 record with a 3.16 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP in six August starts. The right hander is 10-7 with a 3.49 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP overall this season.

Rich Hill gave up six hits and three earned runs across five innings in New York’s 7-0 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals last Monday. Hill owns a 3.88 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP in nine starts with the Mets this season. The Mets are 1-5 in Hill’s last six trips to the mound.

Mets News & Notes

The Mets have shown a few flashes of life in recent weeks including a 6-0 streak back at the beginning of September and a series win over the New York Yankees last weekend. But with an 0-5 record over their last five games including two divisional losses to the Phillies, the Mets are now 72-77 and sit 5.5 games behind the Braves with only 13 games left on the schedule.

This season certainly could have been different for New York without so many injuries to the pitching staff, especially in the case of staff ace Jacob deGrom. Even with a healthy pitching staff and bullpen, however, the Mets would have still had trouble compensating for an offense that ranks 27th in the majors in run production with only 3.95 runs per game.

Phillies News & Notes

Jean Segura hit two solo home runs and Aaron Nola pitched well in Philadelphia’s 5-3 win over the Mets on Saturday. Bryce Harper also extended his current hitting streak to 14 straight games in the win with two hits and two RBI. Harper has batted his way into the NL MVP conversation with a .402 batting average, 11 home runs and 29 RBI over the last 30 days.

The Phillies have closed the gap in the National League East down to just one game behind the Atlanta Braves. With a seven-game homestand coming up next week against two of MLB’s worst teams in the Baltimore Orioles and the Pittsburgh Pirates, there is plenty of optimism in Philadelphia at the moment.

Staff Betting Pick: Philadelphia +100

It is a bit surprising to see the Phillies as an underdog in this matchup given the recent form of these two teams. Look for Philadelphia’s offense to lead the Phillies to a fifth straight win and a sweep over the Mets with a victory in this one.
