Why Is Larson Favored In The Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500 Odds?

Coming off a victory last week, his series-leading seventh of the year, Kyle Larson will roll to the green flag Sunday starting on the pole. The No. 5 machine has been the definition of dominance in the 2021 season, winning the most races, earning the most stage wins, leading the most laps and tying for the most top-10 and top-five finishes.

As well as Larson has run this year, Texas Motor Speedway hasn’t been too kind to him through his career. He has led laps at the track in only one of his 13 career starts there and has had four DNFs (did not finish) over his last nine runnings. Additionally, he has just three top-five finishes at Texas, though one was as a runner-up in 2017. So there could be value outside of the favorite.

NASCAR Predictions This Week For The Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500

This is the first more conventional race in three weeks after a road course last week and a superspeedway the race prior. Denny Hamlin was the Sportsbook in the last two events at 1.5-mile tracks, at Darlington and Las Vegas – perhaps a three-peat is on the horizon? Without further ado, here are my three picks for the Sportsbook race in the Round of 8 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Kyle Busch +700: While Busch heads into the weekend on a sour note after his crew chief, Ben Beshore, was suspended for lug-nut violations last week at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course, I think he still has a great chance at winning this weekend.

Kyle has four career wins at Texas, his third-most on any track the Cup Series visits, including the last running there. As well, he has led at least one lap in 13 of the last 15 races at Texas. As it stands, Busch heads into the Round of 8 one point out of the Championship 4 so an early win could alleviate some pressure.

Denny Hamlin +700: As I mentioned, Hamlin has won the last two 1.5-mile races and while he had difficulties grabbing the checkered flag in the regular season, he has won each of the series-Sportsbook races thus far in the playoffs. He does have three career wins at Texas with his most recent coming in 2019. He will be rolling to the green flag on the outside of row 1 and if he can get out in clean air early, he could win a third straight series-Sportsbook race.

Ryan Blaney +900: I said that Busch is one point back of the Championship 4 at this point; the man he’s behind is Ryan Blaney, who is quietly going about his business in the playoffs. This could be a good statement win for Blaney, having been competitive at Texas in the past without picking up a victory.

He’s led 20 or more laps in five of the last eight races at the track, including the most laps in the spring races of 2017 and 2020. He has three top-five finishes in the last six races at Texas, including a second place in 2018. Blaney will be the first Penske car on the grid, starting outside of row 2 with teammate Joey Logano right behind him in fifth.
