The best basketball betting sites have Team LeBron as the fave and this year’s all-star game continues the 2020 tradition, which is an unconventional format. Here’s how it works:

Each of the first three quarters will begin with a score of 0-0 and will last 12 minutes. At the start of the fourth quarter, the game clock will be turned off and a “Final Target Score” will be set. The “Final Target Score” will be determined by taking the leading team’s total cumulative score through three quarters and adding 24 points. Once the “Final Target Score” is set, the teams will play an untimed fourth quarter and the first team to reach the “Final Target Score” will win the NBA All-Star Game.

This format may sound complicated to a new bettor. However, if 2020 is any indication of how this game will unfold, we’re headed for another NBA All-Star Game classic as last year’s iteration came down to the wire, with a furious comeback by Team LeBron.

Why is Team LeBron Favored in 2021 NBA All-Star Game Odds?

Full rosters for 2021 NBA All-Star game odds. For the fourth year in a row, LeBron James was a team captain for the NBA all-star draft and you don’t need to be Stevie Wonder to see how incredible LeBron’s team is this year. His starting lineup is himself, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Steph Curry, Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic.

Comparing that to Durant’s starters, it almost seems unfair. It’s Joel Embiid, Bradley Beal, Kyrie Irving, Kawhi Leonard and Jayson Tatum, who replaced Durant for the all-star game due to his hamstring injury.

Don’t get me wrong, Durant’s team still has five of the top 24 players in the NBA but LeBron’s team has three players who are former NBA MVPs. Durant’s squad, while strong, is missing its most important player and that is KD himself.

The weak link for Team Durant (outside of him not playing) is his selection of too many first-time all-stars. Every player in LeBron’s group has been in an all-star game before, with the exception of Jaylen Brown, while Durant has four players making their debut in the midseason classic (Julius Randle, Mike Conley, Bradley Beal, Zach LaVine).

This isn’t an indictment of the newcomers but in 2020, it got really tense in the fourth quarter and Team LeBron’s depth was a key factor in its epic comeback.

Typically, you can feel confident placing an MVP wager on the player representing the team that hosts the all-star game. However, this year’s host is Atlanta, and there isn’t a Hawks player in the game. So, considering the above information about Durant’s lineup and with LeBron’s team favored to win, I think the Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo at +900 has the best value.

The reigning NBA MVP is still his dominant self in the open floor and is averaging 29 points per game, which is fifth in the NBA. In last year’s game, he would’ve won MVP had his team won, as he put up 25 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks and was a monster in transition.

The Greek Freak’s skill set lends itself to an all-star game format that typically features little defense until the final stanza. He’ll get a variety of easy layups and dunks off missed shots and there aren’t many players who can keep up with him when he takes just one dribble over half court and then hammers the ball through the hoop.
