The Morning Dunk: Clippers Suffer Rare Loss vs. Pelicans

Today is the big day as 30 teams across the NBA look to finalize any last-minute deals ahead of the 3 p.m. trade deadline. Before the chaos commences, let's look back at all of the action from Wednesday night with the latest edition of The Morning Dunk.

Pelicans Handle Business In Los Angeles

When the Los Angeles Clippers lose a basketball game these days, people tend to take notice because it's such a rare occurence.

The Clippers fell for just the fourth time since Christmas Day in a 117-106 loss to the visiting New Orleans Pelicans at Crypto.com Arena. CJ McCollum connected on five 3-pointers to finish with 25 points, while Zion Williamson posted a double-double of 21 points and 10 dimes.

Wednesday marked just the third time in 11 games that Los Angeles failed to cover the spread, entering the matchup as the 6.5-point favorites. The loss drops the Clippers back down to the fourth seed in the Western Conference after spending the day first overall.

Pistons Pick Up Third Road Win

Animal and Hawk the Detroit Pistons are not, yet on Wednesday, they mustered up the strength to give the Sacramento Kings a Doomsday Device at the Golden 1 Center.

Detroit won on the road for just the third time all season by defeating the Kings 133-120 on the back of Jaden Ivey's 37 points, six rebounds, and seven assists.

Despite being a league-worst 7-43 SU in 2023-24, the Pistons have managed to be a respectable 3-4 over their last seven games. They were the 13-point underdogs against Sacramento and improved to 10-2 ATS in 12 games.

Cavaliers' Latest Winning Streak Hits Seven

What's the best way to follow up an eight-game winning streak? An ongoing seven-game winning streak, of course.

The Cleveland Cavaliers continue to plow through opponents, with the Washington Wizards being their latest victim as Cleveland prevailed 114-106 at Capitol One Arena.

Donovan Mitchell lit up the nation's capital to the tune of 40 points on 25 shots, adding eight rebounds and five assists in 38 minutes of action.

Mitchell currently has +15000 betting odds in the race for NBA Most Valuable Player, which is eighth-best overall.
