The Blue Devils have won seven of their last eight at home and five straight games overall, while Florida State is just 5-3 on the road this season. Duke opened as an 8.5-point home favorite even though this is a game between the seventh- and eighth-ranked programs in the country.
With two of the top four offenses in the ACC facing off and Duke having the third-ranked offense in the country, the total opened at 148 points, which seems appropriate for two schools that have recently seen their game totals frequently go OVER.
Florida State News & Notes
Florida State is going into Monday’s tilt at Duke also having played just two days ago, but the Seminoles were able to rest leading scorers Devin Vassell and Trent Forrest in the second half of Saturday’s lopsided 99-81 win over Miami.
In addition to coming in (somewhat) rested, Florida State has also won 13 of its last 14 games, it is 3-0 against ranked opponents this season and it has matched Duke with a 20-3 overall record and 10-2 ledger within the ACC.
Despite its strong campaign, which includes a fifth straight 20-win season, Florida State is below .500 against the spread this season and is 2-5 ATS in its last seven games.
The Seminoles have raised their game against Duke recently, going 4-1 ATS in their last five matchups, but it hasn’t translated to wins on the scoreboard — they’ve ended up winning only one of those games.
Duke News & Notes
The Blue Devils renewed their historic rivalry with North Carolina on Saturday. While they came away with the victory, needing two buzzer-beaters in a 98-96 overtime victory against an opponent with a sub-.500 record was hardly an inspiring result.
Duke failed to cover the spread as the 8-point favorite, marking the fifth time in its past seven games that it hasn’t covered.
One thing Duke has been doing, however, is scoring points: the total has gone OVER in seven of its last eight games and in nine of 12 home games this season. The Blue Devils also have a strong recent history against Florida State at Cameron Indoor Stadium, where they have won 16 of the last 18 matchups.
With the Blue Devils possessing the third-ranked offense in the country, look for them to engage in yet another high-scoring affair against a Seminoles team that can also score in bunches — they are fourth in the ACC in points.
