Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The Bulldogs opened as 6.5-point favorites and have since been bet up slightly to Gonzaga -8. The total has settled in at 154 points in this marquee matchup after Sportsbook at 155 points. The OVER is 4-1 in Gonzaga’s last five games against ACC teams.

Gonzaga News & Notes

In what was supposed to be a competitive game between two of the nation’s top teams, Gonzaga showed just how dominant this year’s squad is with their 20-point win over the Bruins as 7-point favorites. Andrew Nembhard led the way with 24 points against the Bruins while Drew Timme pitched in 18 points with eight rebounds and Chet Holmgren scored 15 points with four blocks.

Through their first six games of the 2021-22 season, the Bulldogs have an average margin of victory of 31.3 points per game. And with so much depth up and down the lineup, the Bulldogs can beat their opponents in different ways on any given night. Friday’s matchup will be touted as a battle between Holmgren and Paulo Banchero (who are projected to be the top two players drafted in the 2022 NBA Draft), but Holmgren doesn’t even have to do much on offense for the Bulldogs to win.

Duke News & Notes

Banchero had his best game to date in Duke’s 107-81 win over The Citadel Bulldogs on Monday night, scoring 28 points while also recording eight rebounds and six assists. This game illustrates why Banchero is in the conversation to be the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s draft; the freshman is an extremely versatile player that can do just about anything on offense. It will be fun to see how he performs against a significantly tougher group of Bulldogs this Friday.

The Blue Devils have remarkably had the final score of three of their last five games land right on the nose against the spread. Duke beat The Citadel by the exact amount they were favored by (26 points) one game after doing the same against the Lafayette Leopards with a 33-point win as 33-point favorites.

How Gonzaga Will Cover

Duke’s offense relies heavily on Paulo Banchero and Wendell Moore Jr. to produce. If the Bulldogs can neutralize at least one of these scorers in the defensive zone, they should be able to take care of the rest on offense to secure a fourth straight ATS victory.

How Duke Will Cover

Duke passed its first big test of the season against the Kentucky Wildcats with a strong defensive effort in a 79-71 win and proceeded to allow only 54.8 points per game over its next four games. Keeping this game close will require finding a way to slow down a Gonzaga offense averaging 91.5 points per game.
