Baylor Big Favorite Over Kansas in Big 12 Battle of Top-10 Teams

Baylor guard MaCio Teague and his Bears are favored in Monday’s Baylor-Kansas matchup.

Two of the Big 12’s best tip off Monday night as the No. 2-ranked Baylor Bears (12-0 SU, 10-2 ATS) welcome the No. 6 Kansas Jayhawks (10-3 SU, 5-7 ATS) to Ferrell Center. In a matchup that Kansas has dominated for the past decade, the tides have turned with Baylor now the heavy favorite.

Opening Odds Analysis

The Baylor Bears, a perfect 12-0 with 11 wins by double digits, opened as 9-point favorites vs Kansas, which has lost handily in two previous games this season against top-10 ranked opponents. The total opened at 141 and has gone up to around the 142 mark.

Kansas News & Notes

There are very few teams that wouldn’t be happy with a 10-3 record. The Kansas Jayhawks are one of them, in the midst of an underwhelming season and looking to rebound after a tough loss to Oklahoma State.

Their competition only gets tougher facing the second-ranked team in the country on Monday night. The Jayhawks rank outside the top 100 in a number of important defensive categories such as points allowed per game and opponent three-point percentage.

Kansas is led by junior guard Ochai Agbaji, who is scoring 14.7 points per contest and is the only Jayhawk who averages double-digit shot attempts.

Baylor News & Notes

Scott Drew is in his 18th year as head coach of the Bears and this one may be his best yet. The Bears are 12-0 and have absolutely dismantled the competition, with 11 of 12 victories by double digits and an NCAA-best average win margin of 26.2 points.

With four upperclassmen among its five starters, this team is well positioned for a deep run. Leading the way is the backcourt tandem of junior Jared Butler and senior MaCio Teague, who rank first and second respectively in points per game.

The Bears also have tremendous depth and feature nine players who see over 10 minutes of game time per contest.

Betting Pick: Baylor -9

Don’t be tempted by the number of points the Jayhawks are getting. The truth is this Baylor team is miles ahead of Kansas. Expect Baylor to slow this game down and simply be too much for Kansas to handle on both sides of the ball.
