Sportsbook Odds Analysis

While the spread on this game has remained steady with Gonzaga still going off at -20 at home, the total has moved a full 2.5 points down to 154. The Bulldogs were favored by double digits in all 30 of the home games on their current 30-game home winning streak.

Santa Clara News & Notes

Santa Clara is 15-3 SU and 8-8 ATS (two games had no spread) through the first half of the 2019-20 season thanks in large part to the team’s strong play at home. The Broncos are 14-0 SU and 7-5 ATS at home while going only 1-3 SU and ATS on the road. Their road schedule certainly doesn’t get any easier facing powerhouse Gonzaga this week; Santa Clara is 0-12 SU and 4-8 ATS in its last 12 road games against the Bulldogs.

The Broncos’ leading scorer, Trey Wertz, averages only 12.2 points per game, but Santa Clara’s rotations and balanced scoring have produced 78.4 points per game, good for 42nd in the nation. On the defensive end, Santa Clara allows 66.7 points per game, ranking 121st in that category.

Gonzaga News & Notes

The Bulldogs became the sixth No. 1 team this season with a 13-1 SU and 8-5-1 ATS record back in late December, and they’ve kept winning with a 5-0 SU and 2-3 ATS record over their last five games as the nation’s No. 1 team. Gonzaga has been strong on the road with a 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS record, but its one loss did come at a neutral site against Michigan back in November. Since that loss, the Bulldogs are 10-0 SU and 6-4 ATS.

Gonzaga’s soft schedule in the West Coast Conference always makes it tough to gauge just how good the Bulldogs really are, but they are passing the eye test thus far. The Bulldogs rank second in the nation in scoring with 87.8 points per game and are led by Serbian sophomore Filip Petrusev, who is averaging 16.6 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.

Betting Pick: OVER 154

This year’s Santa Clara team is far better than the one that got blown out by Gonzaga twice last year. The Bulldogs are still going to score a ton of points, but Santa Clara’s improved offense should make the game more competitive and send the total OVER the posted line.
