Tennessee Looking To Build Momentum After Early Loss To Colorado

The Volunteers suffered a shocking loss in their second game of the season at home against the Colorado Buffaloes on November 13. Upsets happen but losing 78-66 on your home court as a 16-point favorite is an awful loss by any measure. Tennessee started moving back in the right direction in their last game against the FGCU Eagles, rolling to an 81-50 blowout win to easily cover the spread as a 21-point favorite at home.

Now Tennessee will play its first game away from home in Nassau on Wednesday night. Senior guard Josiah-Jordan James is leading the way on offense so far with 13.7 points per game, followed closely by senior guard Tyreke Key (12.7 ppg). The Volunteers returned four of their top five scorers from last season and came into this year ranked No. 11 in the AP Top 25 poll.

Butler Has Had Recent ATS Success As An Underdog

Butler jumped out to a 53-22 lead by halftime before cruising to an 89-42 blowout win over the Citadel Bulldogs on Saturday. Simas Lukosius and Jayden Taylor both scored 18 points in the win to help the Bulldogs move to 3-1 SU and ATS on the season. The Bulldogs have scored at least 89 points in three of their first four games in 2022-23.

The team’s only loss of the season came on November 14 when Butler narrowly missed covering the spread as a 5.5-point underdog in a 68-62 loss on the road to the Penn State Nittany Lions. Butler was a consistently strong bet getting points last season, finishing the year on an 11-3 ATS run over its last 14 games as an underdog.

Tennessee: Keys to Win

Tennessee finished 25th in defense last season, allowing 62.9 points per game, and has allowed 50 or fewer points in each of its two wins this year. Slowing down the pace of the game and keeping Butler’s offense in check will be key to the Volunteers winning and covering the spread as a Tennessee vs Butler prediction.

Butler: Keys to Win

Butler shot just 34.3 percent from the floor and 21.7 percent from three-point range in its low-scoring loss to Penn State last week. As long as the Bulldogs can avoid another bad shooting night like that one, they could produce enough offense to cover the spread or potentially pull off an upset as a Tennessee vs Butler pick.
