Clemson vs Florida State Picks & Odds: Tigers Road Favorites In Key ACC Clash

The Clemson Tigers (6-0 SU, 3-3 ATS) look to pad their lead atop the ACC Atlantic division standings when they visit the Florida State Seminoles (3-2, 4-1) on Saturday night in Week 7 college football action.

The Tigers padded their unblemished straight-up record with a dominating 31-3 rout of Boston College last weekend and are now also unbeaten in four straight road contests. The Seminoles remain outside the AP Top 25 after dropping a 19-17 decision to North Carolina State and now return home mired in a two-game SU slide.

Clemson vs Florida State Sportsbook Odds

Despite their dominance in last weekend’s win over Boston College, the Tigers have faded since Sportsbook as 7.5-point favorites, dipping to 4.5-point chalk. The total has made slight gains, climbing to 51 since Sportsbook at 50.5. Clemson has dominated in head-to-head action with the Seminoles, claiming victory in six straight meetings, capped by a 30-20 home win last season.

While the total has exceeded 50 just twice over their past five clashes, the OVER still enjoys a steady 4-1 run and has also gone 7-2-1 over the Tigers’ past 10 visits to Tallahassee.

Stout Defense Fueling Clemson’s Fast Start

The Tigers continued their climb up the AP Top 25 rankings to No. 4 with a dominating performance in Saturday’s win over the Eagles. After a somewhat slow start, the Tigers blew the game wide open after halftime. DJ Uiagalelei connected on three scoring passes to put the game out of reach while the Clemson defense effectively shut down the BC attack, limiting the Eagles to just 86 total yards while also forcing a pair of turnovers.

Clemson has tightened up considerably on defense since narrowly escaping with a 51-45 double-overtime win over Wake Forest three weeks ago. The defense has allowed just one touchdown outside of garbage time over the past two games, and limited opposing pivots to just 232.5 passing yards and no scoring tosses over the past two weeks.

Accuracy remains a concern for Uiagalelei. The Tigers passer connected on fewer than 60 percent of his pass attempts for the third time this season in last weekend’s rout of the Eagles. However, he has managed to find the end zone with regularity when playing on the road, racking up eight total scoring passes in two away contests.

Florida State Offense MIA During Two-Game Slide

While the Tigers have started to settle into a groove, the Seminoles return home on the rebound after dropping back-to-back decisions to nationally ranked conference rivals. The Seminoles squandered an early 17-3 lead on their way to last weekend’s 19-17 loss to the Wolf Pack. And after averaging an impressive 37.5 points per game while Sportsbook on a 4-0 run that featured a pair of conference victories, FSU has now tallied just 38 total points in two straight losses.

Indeed, the Seminoles were lucky to seize the early lead last week after stumbling out of the gate for the second time in as many outings. Florida State failed to penetrate the NC State 20-yard line in three sloppy possessions to start the contest and has now scored just seven total first-quarter points over the past two games.

Jordan Travis’ tough start to the season continued in last weekend’s loss. Still smarting from a leg injury suffered in their Week 5 loss to Wake Forest, Travis mustered just 181 yards on 15-for-30 passing, and his ill-timed second interception of the game late in the contest sealed the team’s fate. The upside for Travis is the rushing skills he displayed in Saturday’s loss, scampering for a game-high 108 yards.

Clemson: Keys To Victory

Another stout defensive performance against a struggling Seminoles attack will be crucial in the Tigers’ bid to remain undefeated. However, quarterback DJ Uiagalelei can certainly help his cause with improved accuracy. Uiagalelei will benefit from better protection from an offensive line that has allowed him to be sacked four times in two road outings, a concern that looms large considering the Florida State pass defense sits among the nation’s leaders with 15 sacks.

Florida State: Keys To Victory

Scoring first will be crucial for the Seminoles in their bid to snap a two-game slide. The Tigers rush defense currently ranks second after allowing just 64.2 rushing yards per game during their 6-0 start, while forcing seven fumbles and allowing just two scoring runs. That puts the pressure on Jordan Travis to rediscover the touch that generated eight scoring passes through his first four appearances of the season.
