Three ranked teams lost in Week 1 college football betting action, but all three of those teams at least lost to other ranked teams - including a South Carolina squad that got thumped by Texas A&M.
The Gamecocks, at No. 9 in the AP Top 25 for the Sportsbook week of the season, had been favored by 9 points against then-No. 21 Texas A&M but fell 52-28 as the Aggies found a way to put points on the board despite the fact they no longer have Johnny Manziel at quarterback.
The other two schools who lost ranked matchups were Clemson and Wisconsin, with Clemson falling 45-21 as a 7.5-point underdog on the college football betting lines to Georgia, and Wisconsin falling 28-24 as a 5-point underdog to LSU - which at least allowed them to cover the posted spread at the sportsbooks.
Week 1 of the college football season also didn't turn out to be a great time to side with top-ranked teams giving up lots of points, as Florida State (-18), Alabama (-26), Oregon (-52), and Oklahoma (-38) all failed to cover big lines. However, anyone that got Ohio State at -16.5 against Navy squeaked out an ATS win in the 24-17 Buckeyes victory.
Notre Dame also covered as a 21-point favorite in their 48-17 win over Rice, while Stanford covered a huge 42.5-point spread by blanking UC Davis by a 45-0 score. Here are all the SU and ATS results for the ranked teams on the Week 1 college football schedule . . .
