What’s Special About The Fenway Bowl?
How many college football players can say they’ve played at a baseball stadium? Not many.
Saturday’s game at the legendary Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox, will mark just the fourth active bowl game staged in a baseball stadium, alongside the Pinstripe Bowl (Yankee Stadium), the Holiday Bowl (Petco Park) and Guaranteed Rate Bowl (Chase Field).
The Fenway Bowl is notable because, as we mentioned before, it’s been in the works for multiple years. The first game was originally scheduled for the 2020-21 bowl season, but the COVID-19 pandemic wiped that out.
In 2021-22, the curse continued, as the game was canceled again due to COVID. This time it was Virginia’s roster that had too many COVID positives, preventing the team from safely competing against SMU.
But, it looks like the third time’s the charm, as Cincinnati and Louisville will be ready to go on December 17.
