Oregon vs Oregon State Preview

Ducks, Beavers Set to Atone for Last Year’s Low-Scoring Affair

The Platypus Trophy will once again be up for grabs Friday night in Corvallis as the Oregon State Beavers host the Oregon Ducks. The visitors (3-0 SU, 2-1 ATS) are favored by nearly two touchdowns in this one after Sportsbook the season with three straight wins, while the Beavers (1-2 SU, 2-1 ATS) rebounded from back-to-back losses with a narrow victory over California last time out.

Sportsbook Odds Analysis

Oregon opened as a 16.5-point favorite, but that line has since tumbled all the way down to -13 in most spots. The total has opened at 61.5, the lowest of this annual rivalry series since 2008.

Oregon News & Notes

Justin Herbert might be slinging touchdown passes in Los Angeles, but his replacement with the Ducks hasn’t been half-bad himself. Tyler Shough is coming off his second straight sensational performance, throwing for 334 yards and three touchdowns in a thrilling 38-35 win over UCLA. Shough has eight TD passes in three games while adding 197 rushing yards and a score.

Averaging nearly 39 points per game will hide just about any deficiency on defense, but there’s cause for concern with Oregon, which has allowed 64 points over its past two games. The Ducks have surrendered at least one touchdown in five straight quarters and needed a late fourth-quarter stop to hold off a UCLA team that racked up 462 total yards in defeat.

Oregon State News & Notes

A 2016 upset triumph over the rival Ducks must feel like a distant memory to the Beavers, who have lost the subsequent three meetings by a combined score of 148-35. Still, Oregon State will come into the 2020 edition with at least a little momentum after rolling up more than 200 rushing yards on 30 attempts in a 31-27 victory over the Golden Bears.

The catalyst of Oregon State’s first win of the season was do-it-all quarterback Tristan Gebbia, who struggled to open the season but was a force last weekend. Gebbia had passing, rushing and receiving touchdowns in the win (becoming just the 11th Pac-12 player since 1996 to achieve the feat); he’s a sneaky daily fantasy value play this week against that porous Oregon defense.

Betting Pick: OVER 61.5 (-110)

The Ducks’ potent offense and questionable defense are reason enough to like the OVER here, even though these teams combined to score just 34 points in last year’s encounter.
