  • The Minnesota Vikings (8-1 SU, 4-4-1 ATS) will take a seven-game winning streak into Sunday’s key NFC matchup with the Dallas Cowboys (6-3, 6-3), but they are still listed as small home underdogs at sportsbooks. The Vikings are coming off a stunning overtime win against the Buffalo Bills last week, turning a 27-10 deficit into a 33-30 victory as 6.5-point road underdogs.

    Oddsmakers did not give Minnesota much respect after the team’s biggest victory of the season, perhaps sensing a letdown spot back at home vs another quality opponent. Like the Vikings, the Cowboys are also coming off a game decided in OT, but unlike Minnesota they lost to the Green Bay Packers 31-28 on the road as 3.5-point road favorites to fall into third place in the competitive NFC East.

    Minnesota retained its division lead over Green Bay at 4.5 games in the NFC North and has seen a little early action head its way. Dallas is down to -1 after Sportsbook at -1.5, with the total also up to 47.5 from 47.

    Turnovers Plague Dallas in Road Loss at Lambeau Field

    The Cowboys played the part of favorites for much of last Sunday’s loss to the Packers, with wide receiver CeeDee Lamb totaling a season-high 11 catches for 150 yards and two touchdowns while running back Tony Pollard had 115 yards rushing on 22 carries and added another score.

    Pollard filled in nicely again for the injured Ezekiel Elliott (knee), but it was not enough because quarterback Dak Prescott threw two costly interceptions and failed to convert a fourth-down play in OT that gave Green Bay possession on a drive that eventually resulted in the game-winning field goal. Prescott’s up-and-down play was the difference, and he will need to perform much better to pull off a road win at Minnesota.    

    Minnesota’s Offense Comes Through in Tough Spot at Buffalo

    When it was announced that Josh Allen (elbow) would play for the Bills last week, the point spread jumped more than a field goal before closing at 6.5. Those who got Buffalo early rejoiced and assumed the Vikings would lose with the NFL MVP candidate under center.

    But Minnesota showed a lot of heart and determination during its comeback, and All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson made one of the biggest catches of the season when his team was down 27-23 on a fourth-and-18 play at its own 27-yard line just after the two-minute warning of regulation time.

    The Vikings later scored on a short fumble return touchdown after failing on a fourth-and-1 play on the goal line, and that crazy turn of events gave them a 30-27 lead. They eventually won after a field goal and a pick by Allen.

    Cowboys: Keys To Victory

    Elliott could be back for this one, and his presence might be enough for Dallas to focus more on the running game. While Pollard has done a fine job on his own, pounding the ball with him and Elliott would help the Cowboys take more time off the clock and pressure off Prescott to make plays himself. Defensively, they are a superior team as well, so putting last week’s loss in the rear-view window may be the biggest key to victory.

    Vikings: Keys To Victory

    Minnesota definitely has some positive mojo working in its favor with new head coach Kevin O’Connell, who is one of the top contenders to win Coach of the Year honors. O’Connell sits behind favorite Nick Sirianni of the Philadelphia Eagles, who handed the Vikings their lone loss of the year in Week 2. Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy may have been outcoached by his former team last week and could fall victim to that again here.
