  • The Seattle Seahawks-San Francisco 49ers rivalry isn’t what it used to be from a competitive standpoint, but the teams’ absolute hatred of each other remains despite the 49ers’ free fall down the standings in recent years. The NFC West clubs will renew acquaintances in Washington in Week 2.

    Shark Bites
    • The Seahawks are 0-6 ATS in their last six games in the late afternoon.
    • The total has gone UNDER in five of the Seahawks’ last six games in September.
    • The total has gone OVER in seven of the 49ers’ last nine games on the road.

    Sportsbook opened the Seahawks as 12.5-point home favorites with a total of 43.

    Both teams will be looking to collect their first wins of the season in this one. The Seahawks fell flat against the Green Bay Packers in Week 1 despite holding the high-octane Packers offense scoreless through two quarters. Aaron Rodgers and the Pack broke through in the second half while Seattle’s offense failed to get off the ground and the Seahawks were handed yet another setback at Lambeau Field, a place they haven’t won at in nearly 20 years.

    Signal-caller Russell Wilson threw for only 158 yards and was the team’s leading rusher with only 40 yards on the ground. A major issue in 2016, the offensive line didn’t look much better and couldn’t stop much ahead of Pete Carroll’s plethora of running backs.

    The good news for Seahawks bettors is their penchant for domination over the Niners. In Seattle’s last 12 games vs San Fran, they’re a ridiculous 11-1 ATS. Seattle’s average margin of victory in the last nine meetings between the teams in Seattle is 16.8 points. The -12.5 number may seem bloated initially, but it feels about right when you consider that trend.

    The new-look 49ers looked like the same old 49ers in Kyle Shanahan’s head coaching debut. San Francisco failed to record a touchdown in a 23-3 setback to the Carolina Panthers, with a litany of defensive issues plaguing them throughout the game. New starting quarterback Brian Hoyer looked serviceable, as the veteran completed 24 of his 35 passes for 193 yards and one interception. Hoyer is a bridge from now to when the 49ers inevitably select a young QB in an upcoming draft, but don’t expect him to set the world on fire under center.

    While the Seahawks have had a big advantage when it comes to cashing spread tickets in this series of late, OVER bettors have quietly been profiting as well. Three of the previous four matchups between the Seahawks and 49ers have gone above the closing number.
