Olympics Diving Odds: China Favored For Both Men & Women

How entertaining is it to see a human being fly through the air doing several flips and twists before entering the water with minimal splash. It’s simply remarkable because I certainly know that when I try these same tactics, my stomach is red from a flat-out belly flop – I guess that’s why I’m not in the Olympics. For the Tokyo 2020 Olympics diving odds in both the women’s and men’s three-meter and 10-meter events, China and Chinese athletes are the betting favorites.

Online sportsbook [Sportsbook not available for your region] has all of your Olympics diving odds for the individual and synchronized three-meter and 10-meter diving events for both men and women. Across the eight diving betting markets, China is atop the oddsboard in all eight; next on the list is Great Britain in the men’s events and either Canada or Malaysia on the women’s side.

Olympics Diving Betting Odds: Synchronized Events

Looking back at the 2016 Rio Games, China collected seven of the eight gold medals awarded in the sport of diving, with the lone miss coming in the men’s synchronized three-meter springboard where the Chinese finished third. Great Britain won that event and the Americans, whose national team is the favorite in the most gold medals odds, were the silver medalists.

One of those British divers, Jack Laugher, returns to the Tokyo 2020 Games looking to defend that gold. He and teammate Daniel Goodfellow dominated the FINA Diving World Cup a couple of months ago. For that reason, one of my diving predictions is for Great Britain at +300 to win the men’s synchronized three-meter springboard. Here’s a look at the Olympics diving odds on the men’s side.

China Swept Women’s Synchronized Events

It didn’t take long for the women’s synchronized events to take place with the favorites from China winning both the three-meter springboard and 10-meter platform. Canada picked up the silver and Germany the bronze in the springboard while the U.S. grabbed silver and Mexico the bronze in the platform.

Tokyo 2020 Olympics Diving Odds: Individual Events

The Chinese women’s team dominated both the three-meter and 10-meter individual events, winning gold and silver in both in 2016. Perhaps to no surprise, Shi Tingmao (-167) is favored to repeat in the three-meter event and Chen Yuxi (-145) is the chalk for the 10-meter.

While I think the three-meter is likely going to Tingmao, the 10-meter discipline is more up for grabs and I like Malaysia’s Pandelela Rinong Pamg (+1200), who scored 13.70 more points than the runner-up in the World Cup and was a silver medalist in the women’s synchronized platform in Rio.

Jack Laugher to Pull Off Two Upsets?

I spoke of Jack Laugher and Great Britain offering good value to win the men’s synchronized three-meter springboard, but Laugher as an individual at +400 may be challenging for gold. He was the silver medalist in this event at Rio but with gold medalist Cao Yuan not competing in this discipline, the door is open for the Brit to strike gold.
