Bayern can tie Borussia in title race with win over Hertha Berlin

Hertha Berlin may well need to pull a rabbit out of the hat on Saturday afternoon when they travel to take on Bayern Munich. Hertha of course beat the defending Bundesliga champions back in September but now that the giants have found their rhythm, this match could have a different feel to it, as the Munich club looks to go level on points with rival Borussia Dortmund at the top of the table – temporarily, at least.

SHARK BITES
  • Bayern Munich has won its last four home games in the Bundesliga.
  • Hertha Berlin has won its last two league outings on the road.
  • Bayern Munich has won 16 of the last 23 meetings between these two teams.

Bayern is edging closer to top spot

There is no doubt that over the last few weeks Bayern Munich has been approaching fifth gear and looks set to reach peak form at precisely the right point in the campaign. Bayern was in Champions League action in midweek away to Liverpool, and came away with a credible goalless draw.

Hertha Berlin sits ninth in the table but has been responsible for some of the biggest shocks seen in this season’s Bundesliga. In addition to beating Bayern back in September, they also ended Borussia Monchengladbach’s 100 percent home record a few weeks ago with a hugely impressive 3-0 victory.

Nevertheless, it is Bayern Munich that comes into this match as the red-hot favorite to take all three points. You can back the champions to win at just -600, while Hertha is all the way out at +1600 to pick up what would be a shock victory on the road. A draw is priced in the middle at +550.

A comfortable afternoon in store for the champions

Bayern’s recent home form in the Bundesliga has been impeccable, with the side winning its last four encounters in front of its fans – including a 4-1 thrashing of Stuttgart – and we believe they will make it five wins in a row this weekend. It is of course never easy trying to predict the exact scoreline of a football match, but a 3-1 victory for Bayern is priced competitively at +1000 and may well be worth backing when you consider the recent form of the champions.

Such a result would then also allow you to back OVER 2.5 goals in the game, which is priced very low at just -275, as well as both teams to score, which is at the short odds of -110. Therefore, in an attempt to try to boost any potential winnings from this clash, you may wish to consider combo betting, which allows you to select multiple outcomes at higher odds.

For example, a combo bet of a Bayern Munich win, coupled with both teams to score, is at the higher price of +137, while a home victory and OVER 3.5 goals in the game is at +105. OVER 2.5 goals and both teams to score comes in at +110.

Could Bayern make a fast start?

Given Bayern’s excellent recent home record and the fact that Hertha Berlin has been lacking somewhat in consistency over the last few weeks, the home side could well come racing out of the blocks in search of an important early goal. It may well be an idea therefore to back OVER 0.5 goals in the first 10 minutes at +240, while Bayern is at just +300 to be ahead by the end of that time period.

This is a game we are fully expecting Bayern to dominate. They are capable of winning this game to nil (without Hertha scoring a goal), an outcome you can back at just +100, while they are at the same price to win both halves.

In terms of goalscorers, Kingsley Coman bagged a brace last week and will be hoping to add to his tally. The midfielder is at +150 to net at any time and +650 to score either the first or the last goal of the game.
