The eighth FIFA Women’s World Cup is wrapping up with USA and the Netherlands meeting in the finals. The States have been dominant the whole way through the tournament and they are -240 favorites with the Netherlands coming back at +440.
Americans Favored to Win World Cup
Team USA is looking to become just the second nation to win back-to-back World Cups after Germany did so in 2003 and 2007. In 2015, the Americans surrendered just three goals all tournament, one in the round robin and two in the final against Japan in a 5-2 thumping. Over the last two years, the team has an impressive record of 20-3-1 with that lone defeat coming against this year’s host country, France.
Gender Discrimination Lawsuit Special Prop
A hot topic heading into the World Cup was the gender discrimination lawsuit the United States soccer team has filed against the United States Soccer Federation. There are 28 players involved in the suit and the suit isn’t just about money – it contends training conditions, medical treatment, coaching and where and how often they play are not equal compared to the men’s team. Sportsbook Sportsbook has set odds of -300 on “No” and +200 on “Yes” on whether the team will win against the federation in this suit.
One of the arguments for the team is that they play and win more than their male counterparts, but get lower wages from the United States Soccer Federation. In January 2000, some of the stars from the team boycotted a tournament in Australia over some of the same issues we are dealing with today. This is just one part of a broader fight for women’s equality among all sports and in life in general.
