Carwin Looks For Underdog Magic at UFC 116

Finally we get the fight we’re looking for and I’m betting on Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin to give us a fight worth waiting for.

It’s been over a year since UFC Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar stepped inside the octagon but don’t expect any ring rust from the champ. Lesnar is not happy to see Carwin walking around with a belt of his own as interim champion, although the layoff is not reflected in the UFC 116 odds, which are not prohibitive.

Expect plenty the kind of anger only possible from a man who used to be the WWE’s top bad guy but there will be nothing staged about this brawl. Lesnar is a fast learner and will have spent months analyzing tape of Carwin, finding holes in his defence.

Shane Carwin is no slouch and he’ll bring plenty of offense to this fight. This will be a brutal slugfest from the start but there will be only one Sportsbook. Many fans are betting on Brock Lesnar at -143 to win big with Sportsbook. The Heavyweights might top the bill but they aren’t the only fighters worth getting excited about.

Chris Leben and Yoshihiro Akiyama come into this fight from completely different positions. Leben is a late replacement for Wanderlei Silva and had his last fight just two weeks ago. By contrast Akiyama hasn’t fought since UFC 100. Bettors need to weigh up Leben’s fatigue against Akiyama’s inactivity. To me Akiyama has the slender advantage on that front and when it comes to raw talent there is no contest.

The Japanese fighter has too much skill and class for Leben to cope with. This will be one of the more technical fights of the night but I like Yoshihiro Akiyama to win at -247 with Sportsbook.

Krzysztof Soszynski and Stephan Bonnar have old scores to settle after a controversial end to their last fight. A close battle saw Soszynski awarded victory by TKO after an accidental cut on Bonnar caused the fight to be stopped. These two gladiators agreed a rematch was necessary so they’re giving MMA betting fans just what they want at UFC 116.

While Bonnar gave the Polish-Canadian all he could handle last time out, his career has been on a downward curve for some time now. Soszynski knows he can’t afford to leave any doubt in the minds of fans this time around. I like Soszynski to come out looking to dominate and to win big at -233 with Sportsbook.
