Heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez steps back into the Octagon at UFC 188 following a year and a half absence this weekend to face Fabricio Werdum and unify the UFC Heavyweight titles. UFC 188 odds are available on all 12 fights on the card including an exciting Lightweight matchup between Eddie Alvarez and Gilbert Melendez.
Velasquez vs Werdum
The price on Velasquez to win opened at Bovada at -450 and has steadily risen up to the current -550. Even at that lofty price, action on Velasquez is worth the risk. He holds edges in striking and wrestling and needs only to stay out of the guard of Werdum to be victorious.
Melendez vs Alvarez
Gilbert Melendez and Eddie Alvarez will have UFC Lightweight relevancy on the line when they meet up at UFC 188. MMA odds on this fight at Bovada currently have Melendez handicapped as the -185 favorite while an Alvarez victory will pay +150.
We think Alvarez will be able to match pace with Melendez and he should hold an edge in striking power and wrestling. We think upset action on Alvarez is the way to go in this fight, as long as he moves forward and fights in an aggressive manor.
Gastelum vs Marquardt
Ultimate Fighter winner Kelvin Gastelum will make a quick turnaround back to the Octagon following his first loss. Now he gets Nate Marquardt at 185 pounds, and the results should be the same as we’ve always seen from him.
Expect a dominant wrestling and ground-and-pound display from Gastelum (-500). We don’t recommend taking action on the +350 option on a well past-his-prime Nate Marquardt.
