PNC Championship Prop Bets: Team Woods Leads Our Best Bets

The PNC Championship is set to get underway Saturday as 20 teams of two will take to the Ritz Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida. A 36-hole scramble featuring top PGA Tour players such as Justin Thomas, Matt Kuchar and Bubba Watson and a slew of previous major champions, the PNC Championship has been a staple on the December golf calendar for the past few decades.

Despite all the big names, it is Tiger Woods who has garnered all of the pre-tournament attention as he will return to competition for the first time in nearly a year. Sportsbook has priced numerous prop bets to welcome Woods back to competition.

In the below tables, we will touch on a wide selection of prop bets pertaining to not only Team Woods but the rest of the field. These will range from specific shots to tournament totals, head-to-head matchups and much, much more.

Team Woods – Both to Hit 1st Fairway?

Yes -600; No +460

The opener at the Ritz Carlton Golf Club is a relatively soft handshake so, on a normal day of playing just for fun, the answer to this question would be yes. However, Saturday will not be your typical round as this appears to be a major championship in the mind of Charlie Woods. Factor in his nerves with his father’s inherent rustiness and perhaps some nerves of his own and the +460 appears to be a touch too long to pass on. Tiger’s strength has never been accuracy off the tee and hopefully that is something he passes on to his son on the first tee Saturday as we will only need one of them to miss the fairway for this wager to come through.

36-Hole Match Bet – Woods vs Daly

Team Daly -130; Team Woods +100

There is likely to be some rust for Tiger in some capacity. Whether that will be with his ball-striking or his short game remains to be seen, but given the nature of his injury and what he was able to do in a practice sense, I am going to assume it will be with his ball-striking. If that proves to be the case, this could put Team Woods in a precarious position as he was responsible for the majority of the approach shots in last year’s PNC Championship. Charlie will be able to take care of things off the tee, but the lack of iron prowess is a concern of mine and could leave the door open for Team Daly.

The Daly duo has played in this format numerous times previously and has found success in just about every outing. Little John Daly is a freshman on the Arkansas Razorbacks golf team and by all accounts had an up-and-down fall semester in the SEC. He is used to competitive golf and should be fine on this stage alongside his father, who has been playing in a casual setting the past couple of months. The senior Daly recently went viral for chipping in with an adult beverage in hand, but I reckon the big-hitting Dalys can edge out the Woods.

Will Team Woods record a bogey or worse?

No -155; Yes +125

They recorded one in each round in last year’s PNC Championship and I figure they will do something similar once again. While Woods was hardly healthy a year ago, he was still in much better shape compared to what we are getting this time around. Charlie most likely has improved and grown into his game a bit, but all it takes is a couple of poor swings over the course of 36 holes. If those swings just so happen to occur on the same hole, then this bet should have no problem cashing, and I will happily take the plus-money side.

Will Team B. Watson record a bogey or worse?

No -230; Yes +190

Similar logic compared to Team Woods as Bubba is set to pair up with his father-in-law, Wayne Ball. There is not a ton of information surrounding Ball’s golf game, but what we do know is he will be playing from the senior tees, not necessarily the junior tees. This could prove to be a big factor in this wager as longer tees tend to invite more of the trouble. We have seen before that Bubba can get wild with the driver in hand, and playing first most of the time, this would put some unnecessary stress on Ball’s ball-striking. It is not a matter of if, but rather when Bubba will lose a golf ball and if so, I don’t have faith in Ball’s game to back him up, meaning a bogey will likely occur somewhere along the course of 36 holes.

Will Team Woods record an eagle or better?

Yes -145; No +115

They led the field last year in this category with a total of three, but a lot has happened over the last 12 months. Tiger’s injury leaves this father-son duo in a weird spot when it comes to just how they attack the Ritz Carlton Golf Club. Charlie’s tee shots will be heavily featured, meaning they may give up some length to their counterparts. Having more club into the par 5s essentially squanders their chances at making an eagle this week. While they did convert three opportunities last year, they clearly had some magic on the greens, throwing fist pumps and rolling in putts from distance. I don’t expect such prowess on the greens this time around, meaning the eagle chances may fall by the wayside.
