The Atlanta Braves are 7-1 in their last eight road games against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Braves are hoping to punch their ticket to the NLCS for the first time since 2001 with another road win over the Cardinals on Monday night.
Sportsbook Odds Analysis
Oddsmakers were waiting for Atlanta to announce a starter to release a line and total for the game, but with the news that Keuchel will get the ball for the Braves, Sportsbook opened Atlanta as a +110 road underdog with a total of 8.5. The Cardinals are coming back as -120 chalk.
Atlanta News & Notes
After riding a three-run rally in the top of the ninth inning to a 3-1 victory in Game 3, the Braves have plenty of pitching options heading into Game 4. Keuchel will be returning on short rest after starting Game 1. The veteran got a no-decision in the series opener while pitching 4.2 innings and allowing one earned run and five hits.
Atlanta could use just about everyone besides Sunday starter Mike Soroka and scheduled Game 5 starter Mike Foltynewicz. The Braves pitching staff has combined to allow only one run over the team’s last two games since allowing seven in a 7-6 loss to the Cardinals in Game 1. Atlanta is 48-34 on the road this season after Sunday’s win.
St. Louis News & Notes
The Cardinals got a brilliant performance out of Adam Wainwright in Game 3. The veteran righty went 7.2 scoreless innings, allowing only four hits and two walks with eight strikeouts along the way. Andrew Miller recorded the final out of the eighth inning to put the game in Carlos Martinez’s hands. Martinez blew the save, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks.
Dakota Hudson has been a consistent Sportsbook for the Cardinals all season long. St. Louis is 19-5 over Hudson’s last 24 starts and 10-1 in his last 11 home starts against National League opponents. Hudson should give his team a chance to win, but the offense needs to get back on track after putting up zeroes in 23 of the 27 innings that the Cardinals have played this postseason.
Betting Pick: St. Louis ML
Atlanta has a solid top three starters in Foltynewicz, Soroka and Keuchel, but this fourth game was always going to be an issue for them after Julio Teheran’s late-season collapse. St. Louis should be able to scratch out some runs in this one and force a Game 5 back in Atlanta.
