The Cubs caught a break when Jacob deGrom was forced to leave Wednesday night’s game with a shoulder injury after just three innings pitched. Despite deGrom’s early exit, Chicago still only managed to score three runs in a 6-3 loss to the Mets. Chicago has been outscored 14-7 in this series and has scored only nine total runs over the team’s last four games.
This is the Cubs’ fifth losing streak of three games or more this season. The Cubs are 3-1 in their previous four games coming off of three straight losses, with their only loss in such a situation coming during a season-long five-game losing streak back at the end of April. Chicago has fallen to 38-30 with these recent losses.

Jacob deGrom has now been pulled out of each of his last two starts early due to arm issues as he had elbow soreness after last Friday’s start against the San Diego Padres and now shoulder soreness against the Cubs on Wednesday.
The Mets are hoping that these injuries are nothing serious and appear to just be taking all the precautions that they can with their star pitcher. The right-hander is on a historic pace in 2021 with a remarkable 0.54 ERA, 0.51 WHIP and 111 strikeouts through 67.1 innings.
New York enters Thursday’s action with the best team ERA in the majors at 3.12. This Mets pitching staff and bullpen have been so good that the team has managed to compile a 35-25 record and open up a five-game lead in the National League East despite having one of the worst offenses in baseball. The Mets are 8-2 over their last 10 games.
