Can Greinke and the D-backs Stop the Rockies Offense?

The Colorado Rockies are getting hot at the right time and will look to win their seventh straight game against their NL West rival, the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Rockies rank near the top of the list for every offensive category over the last month but will need to solve Zack Greinke to get the victory.

The Diamondbacks opened as -140 favorites with a total of 8.5.

Standout Stats

  • Zack Greinke may be kind of an enigma but what is certain is the man can pitch. He owns a 2.65 ERA in 15 starts this season and has a similar mark in six home starts at 2.48. He held the Rockies to six hits and one earned run at Coors Field on May 27 and for his career, his ERA is 3.71 in 31 starts against Colorado.
  • Jon Gray will be on the mound for the Rockies and he sports a 5.06 ERA in eight road starts this season. He is very familiar with Chase Field as he’s tossed there three times in his short career and has fared pretty well. His ERA from those starts is 3.71, although his WHIP is fairly high at 1.41. When he pitched in Arizona last season, he gave up six hits and three earned runs in only four innings.
  • The Rockies offense has come alive over the last month and they are crushing it at the plate. In the last 30 days, the Rockies rank first in hits, batting average, RBIs, doubles and runs while going 18-9 SU in 27 games. They’ve also won the last six games in this matchup and seven of their last eight games at Chase Field.
  • The D-backs bullpen has been fairly solid over the last month with a 4.05 ERA while only walking 8.6 percent of opposing batters. If Greinke can’t go deep into the game, the bullpen could be a liability as that was the case when he started at Coors Field in May and the relievers couldn’t hold the lead.
  • A lot of UNDER trends coming into this matchup stand out. The UNDER has hit in four of the last five games in this matchup, in the last five Diamondbacks home games and in four of Greinke’s last five starts.

My Best Bet for Rockies vs Diamondbacks

Rockies moneyline

I’m mainly fading Zack Greinke and the Diamondbacks because of the poor value for their moneyline and I don’t trust their bullpen enough to hold off the Rockies. Colorado’s offense has been so good over the last month and while some of those numbers can seem to be inflated because of Coors Field, the fact remains the Rockies are still high in most offensive categories in road games too.

It will be a tough go because I love Greinke but the price oddsmakers are offering him at makes it an easier decision to bet against him and the D-backs.

The Rockies are 6-0 SU in their last 6 games vs the D-backs. The Rockies rank first in RBIs over the last 30 days.away The UNDER has hit in 4 of Zack Greinke’s last 5 starts. home
