Starting Pitchers

Johnny Cueto (4-5) will look to pick up his first victory since mid-July when he takes the mound for Chicago. The right-hander took a no-decision last time out on August 10 against the Kansas City Royals as he allowed nine hits and two earned runs over six innings of work. Cueto owns a 2.91 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP in 102 innings this season.

Jose Urquidy (11-4) last pitched on August 9 against the Texas Rangers, picking up his second straight win despite a rocky start. The Astros right-hander surrendered five hits, three homers and five earned runs over five innings – the most runs he’s allowed since April 17. Urquidy owns a 3.85 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP through 119.1 innings.

Bregman Helps Astros Complete Sweep Of Athletics

The Astros completed a three-game sweep of the Oakland Athletics on Sunday with a 6-3 win. Alex Bregman staked the Astros to an early lead with a two-run shot in the first inning and Jose Altuve followed up by hitting a two-run double in the second. Bregman finished the game with three RBIs while starter Cristian Javier allowed just one hit over six scoreless innings.

Houston’s sluggers have been seeing the ball well in August, with Kyle Tucker and Bregman leading the charge. Tucker has two homers and 11 runs batted in this month while hitting .324, ranking just outside the top 10 in the majors for RBIs in August. Meanwhile, Bregman has three home runs and nine RBIs while his .400 batting average over the last two weeks is tied for first in the MLB.

White Sox Plugging Away At Wild-Card Race

The White Sox finished up their own sweep on Sunday, defeating the Detroit Tigers 5-3 to pick up their third straight win. Chicago rallied from an early two-run deficit thanks to a two-RBI performance from Andrew Vaughn, while starter Lance Lynn scattered five hits and two earned runs over six innings to earn the victory.

Chicago has been plugging away in the AL playoff race, winning 10 of its last 16 contests to move within two games of the Tampa Bay Rays for the third and final wild-card spot. While the White Sox have won five straight home games, they’ll need that trend to continue if they’re going to make a push for the postseason as they’re the only club in the race without a winning record on home turf.

Astros vs White Sox Pick & Insights

Astros: Keys To Victory

Houston has relied on its bats over its current four-game run as the club is scoring seven runs per contest over that span. The Astros will look to target Cueto, who has looked shaky after surrendering 21 hits over his last two outings combined. If the bats do get to Cueto early, it should be a fun night for the Astros.

White Sox: Keys To Victory

Chicago is outscoring opponents by an average of 5.2-2.0 over its last five home games, and pitching will be key once again as the White Sox come up against one of the better-hitting teams in the majors. While Cueto has been very hittable of late, he hasn’t allowed more than three runs in a start since May. If he can hold the Astros to three or less, the Sox might be OK.
