Starting Pitchers Analysis

Clayton Kershaw outdueled Max Scherzer in a 3-0 win over the Washington Nationals in his last start as he went six innings with six strikeouts allowing five hits, no walks and no runs. The veteran left-hander has now allowed only one earned run over his last 13 innings pitched and owns a tidy 2.89 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP through his first three starts of 2021.

Yu Darvish has allowed only three hits and one earned run in each of his last two starts, most recently striking out six across seven innings in a 6-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates last Monday. San Diego has won all three of the games Darvish has started.

Los Angeles News & Notes

Corey Seager hit a towering home run in the top of the 12th inning on Friday night to give the Dodgers an 8-6 lead over the Padres. Los Angeles extended that lead to 11-6 in the top of the frame and ended up winning the game by that score, improving their MLB-best record to 12-2 in the process. Seagar is one of four Dodgers who already have 10 RBI on the young season.

Los Angeles enters the weekend ranked second in the major leagues in scoring with 6.14 runs per game and fourth in team ERA with a 3.02. The Dodgers were dominant in all facets of the game en route to a championship in 2020 and have picked up where they left off here in 2021.

San Diego News & Notes

Fernando Tatis Jr. returned from the injured list on Friday night and hit his second home run of the season in the fifth inning. The resilient Padres tied the game in both the bottom of the eighth inning and the bottom of the ninth inning before eventually falling short in the 12th inning.

With the loss, the Padres fell to 1-3 over their last four games and to 9-6 on the season. Since Sportsbook the year with a 3-0 record at home, San Diego is just 1-4 in its last five games at home. The Padres finish up this home series against the Dodgers with games on Saturday and Sunday before hosting the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Betting Pick: Los Angeles -118

The Padres are a worthy adversary to the Dodgers this season as indicated by Friday’s thrilling series opener. But getting this dominant Los Angeles team at such a low price is an opportunity that we can’t pass up on.
